Cortland, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team concluded its season on Saturday with a pair of losses on the road against the Cortland Red Dragons. With losses of 5-0 and 3-0, Brockport ends the 2022 season 13-19 overall and 6-12 in the SUNYAC.
Game 1 – Brockport 0, Cortland 5
Kellie Gentile was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a stolen base in game one.
Cameryn Duggan and
Olivia Hayden were both 1-for-4 batting from the top two spots in the lineup.
Catherine Johnson and
Emily Willis-Nersinger were both 1-for-1 in the game.
Freshman
Hali Jenner (L, 3-7) threw for 2.2 innings as Brockport's starter in the circle, allowing four earned runs in the loss.
Catherine Johnson stepped up to take the ball in the third, striking out six without allowing any runs to score in 3.1 innings pitched.
Game one of the doubleheader was decided in the second and third innings. Cortland was able to get on the board first with three runs in the second. The team added two more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Brockport was unable to bring a runner in to score, falling in the first game of the set.
Game 2 – Brockport 0, Cortland 3
Cameryn Duggan extended her hitting streak in game two, going 3-for-4 at the dish. Duggan finishes the season with at least one hit in 10 consecutive games.
Amanda O'Connor and
Julia Palopoli went 1-for-2, while
Molly Ryan finished 1-for-3.
Julia Palopoli (L, 2-3) allowed just two earned runs in 4.1 innings of work as the game two starter.
Megan Van Dorn closed the game pitching 1.2 innings, while giving up just one hit and one earned run.
The Green and Gold struggled again in game two to get a run to cross home plate. Cortland had a two-run homer in the fourth inning and an RBI double in the six to score three runs. Brockport fell in game two, 3-0, as Cortland completed the sweep.
With losses on Saturday, the Golden Eagles are officially eliminated from postseason contention and will not compete in the SUNYAC Tournament. They finish the 2022 season 13-19 overall and 6-12 in the SUNYAC.
