The SUNY Brockport men's and women's track & field programs competed at the University of Rochester's Spring Classic on Friday. SUNYAC Indoor Rookie of the Year
Jonathan Zavala burst on the outdoor scene with a first-place finish in the 1500m race. His time of 3:55.06 ranks third on Brockport's all-time outdoor list.
All-American Chanyce Powell set a new outdoor PR and nearly broke the outdoor school-record as she posted a first place triple jump of 11.96m. She also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.64m.
Indoor NCAA qualifier
Art Jordan won the men's shot put with an outdoor PR throw of 16.28m. His new outdoor best ranks sixth all-time at Brockport.
Alex Rood placed second in the shot put with a throw of 14.79m. Brockport's took home the top five spots in the event. Washington placed third (13.89m),
Matt Faulise placed fourth (13.68m) and
John Demy placed fifth (13.57m). Jordan also added a second place finish in the discus (41.86m).
Reining SUNYAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year Sarah Crockett placed first in the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 49.56m. Crockett also won the shot put with a throw of 13.05m. Alayna Fredenburg placed second in the hammer with a throw of 46.42. Fredenburg placed second in the javelin with a toss of 33.69m. Ellie Ramirez placed third in the javelin (32.84m).
Brockport's
Elijah Washington won the men's hammer with a toss of 52.37, while
Matt Faulise nearly broke 50m as well with a second place throw of 49.98m.
Sarah Killip, Halle King and Michaela Levesque swept the top three spots in the high jump. Killip cleared 1.61m to placed first. King placed second in the high jump after clearing 1.58m on her second attempt. Levesque placed third (1.58m).
Paul Suflita,
Jared Smith, and Thomas Kressley each posted regional qualifying marks in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Suflita posted a 9:32.70 and placed fifth, Smith came in with a seventh-place time of 9:41.67 and Kressley added a time of 9:47.45. NCAA qualifier
Josh Jeziorski placed third in the long jump with a distance of 7.13m.
Sophomore Kelly Brown placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.16. He also added a second-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.99.
Nick Markle narrowly missed out on a regional qualifying time as he placed second in the 800m race.
Freshman Zach Smith placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.13m.
Brockport's 4x100 meter relay team of Satin Holmes, Aniya McGhie, Marris Wise, and Sarah Levine cracked 49 seconds with a time of 48.98. Holmes and Sarah Levein placed first and second in the 100-meter dash with time of 12.81 and 13.09, respectively.
Marissa Wise placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.85.
Brockport returns to the track next weekend when the Golden Eagles travel to Bucknell University to participate in the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.
