The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team lost to host and second-seeded SUNY Geneseo 9-4 in the SUNYAC Conference Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. Brockport caps SUNYAC tournament play with a 10-5 overall record, marking the second most wins in program-history.
Brockport senior
Ethan Stiles was stellar in the faceoff circle once again as he won 10-of-17 chances and also added a team-best five ground balls.
Chris Bock,
Max Riley and
Anthony McGee each added three ground balls for the Golden Eagles. Stiles capped his season with a 65.6 faceoff % and also scooped up 92 ground balls, leading the league in both categories.
Goalie
John Felice, who set a new single season record for goalie victories this year with 10, stopped 10 shots between the pipes for the Golden Eagles. Felice is the program's all-time leader with 358 career saves and he is the first goalie in program-history with 300+ career saves.
Brockport kept it close through 15 minutes of action and trailed by just one, 3-2, following first quarter goals from
Nate Askin and
Jack Peterson. Askin caps his first year in the green and gold with 16 points on 11 goals and five assists. Peterson scored a career-high 24 points on 19 goals and five assists this season.
Geneseo was able to push its lead to 9-2 over the course of the next 30 minutes of action to take a seven-goal lead into the fourth and final quarter. Brockport's
Carson Colucci and
Rocco Santillo each registered fourth quarter goals, but the comeback bid proved to be too late as the Knights earned the five goal victory and the right to advance to the SUNYAC Championship game at Cortland on Saturday.
Santillo caps his senior season with a career-high 44 points on 35 goals and nine assists. His 35 goals in a single season rank sixth all-time at Brockport. Colucci finished his sophomore season with six goals in his final five contests.
Owen VanWie posted an assist on Colucci's fourth quarter goal for the Golden Eagles. VanWie finished the year ranked third on the team with 28 points on 16 goals and 12 assists.
The Golden Eagles finished the day going 19-of-21 on clear opportunities. Geneseo went 2-for-2 on man-up chances.
Brockport was making its sixth conference tournament appearance since 2011 and won 10 or more games this year for the second time in program-history. Brockport's 191 goals this season have set a new program record.
