Brockport, NY- The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team will host two SUNYAC matchups this week after playing the last five games on the road. On Wednesday, September 28
th the women will play Buffalo State at the Dr. Linda Arena Field at 4pm. Up next on Saturday, October 1
st Brockport will host Plattsburgh State at 1pm for the team's Brain Injury Awareness Game.
Weekend Recap: This past Saturday the Golden Eagles defeated the SUNY Potsdam Bears in their second conference match of the season. Brockport came out firing in the first half, outshooting the Bears 9-4 in the first 45 minutes.
Lucy Crounse scored what would be the game-winner for Brockport, notching the first goal of her collegiate career. Crounse found the back of the net after receiving the pass from
Julia Mascaro at 37:14 in the first half.
Looking at The Bengals: Buffalo State is 5-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference going into Wednesday's matchup. The Bengals have put up a total of 19 goals so far this season, seven of which were scored by sophomore Macey Gioeli. All three of their goalies have seen the net this season, but junior Bella Vene has started five games and has a 0.857 save average. She has allowed four goals and made 24 stops for the team.
Looking at the Cardinals: Plattsburgh State is 4-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference going into the week. Plattsburgh has recorded 10 goals this season thanks to the three leading scorers, who have all recorded two goals. Both of their goalies have seen ample time in goal. Senior goalkeeper Julia Ennis has allowed four goals and made 18 saves for a save percentage of 0.818%. Sophomore goalkeeper, Lauren Haley has allowed two goals, made 14 saves, and has a save percentage of 0.875%.
Brain Injury Awareness: Saturday's game against the visiting Cardinals will be the teams Brain Injury Awareness game. September is Brain Injury Awareness month, a campaign lead by the Brain Injury Association of America that promotes the hashtag
#MoreThanMyBrainInjury. The Purpose of this campaign is to give individuals a chance to overcome those definition's of disabilities, allowing them to tell their own stories and change the narrative of their lives. The women will be wearing blue pennies during warm ups, wearing blue ribbons and using blue cones, in support of this national cause.
Up Next: Brockport gets back on the road next week with two more SUNYAC contests set. The team takes on Fredonia at 7pm on October 5th before going down to Oneonta for a 1pm start on October 8th.
