Brockport Defeats Buffalo State in Home SUNYAC Matchup

Brockport, NY- The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team defeated Buffalo State, 1-0, on Wednesday at home. Brockport now moves to 3-4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference after winning back-to-back SUNYAC matchups.

With just 9:20 remaining in the contest, Franchesca Polcaro hit a strike in the upper left corner of the net to beat the Buffalo St. goalkeeper for the game-winning goal. Polcaro's first score of the season came off of an assist from teammate Emily Maczka. The late goal in the second half would be the only score of the match, resulting in the 1-0 victory for the Green and Gold.
 

The Golden Eagles controlled the ball in the attacking zone for the majority of the game. In the first half alone, they outshout the visiting Bengals, 13-1. In total, Brockport had 21 shots compared to just four from Buffalo State.

Lara Kanbur, Julia Mascaro, Karlie Mann, Lucy Crounse, Megan Gerber, Sydnee Smith, Brylie Hapeman, Emily Maczka, Katie Hotaling, and Kiley Longin all recorded shots for the Golden Eagles. Combined the ladies fired 10 shots on target and were awarded 11 corner kick opportunities.

Both Kayla Usborne and Madeline McCrosson spent a period in the net. McCrosson recorded the only two saves for Brockport during the second half of play to help secure the clean sheet for Brockport.

Up Next: The women will return to SUNYAC play at home this Saturday, October 1st at 1pm against Plattsburgh State for their Brain Injury Awareness game. The team asks that everyone who comes out to support wears blue, to show unity for this national cause. 
 
Brain Injury Awareness: Saturday's game against the visiting Cardinals will be the teams Brain Injury Awareness game. September is Brain Injury Awareness month, a campaign lead by the Brain Injury Association of America that promotes the hashtag #MoreThanMyBrainInjury. The Purpose of this campaign is to give individuals a chance to overcome those definition's of disabilities, allowing them to tell their own stories and change the narrative of their lives. The women will be wearing blue pennies during warm ups, wearing blue ribbons and using blue cones, in support of this national cause.
