Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team defeated New Paltz, 82-79, for its fifth consecutive win. Brockport is now 12-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
David Grady III was a force on the interior Friday night for the Green and Gold. He finished with a game-high and season-high 23 points. He was 7-for-9 from the field, while also grabbing seven boards and blocking five shots defensively.
Mekhi Beckett had 18 points in the contest to go with five boards and a pair of steals.
Tony Arnold provided some valuable production with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
Jahidi Wallace ended the game with 13 points and seven boards.
The Golden Eagles were able to take an early 6-0 lead by attacking the paint often. However, New Paltz settled in to keep the score close. Beckett would spark a run for Brockport that put the team up 25-16 near the midpoint of the first half. Wallace would score before the halftime horn to hold onto a 7-point lead at the break.
To start the second half, Brockport continued to pound the ball inside to extend the lead. After a pair of made free throws by Grady, the squad held a 57-42 lead over the Hawks with 13:35 on the clock. Although Brockport had a decent lead, New Paltz would begin to close the gap approaching crunch time.
The Hawks made it a 1-point game, 80-79, with a big 3-pointer in the final minute. However, they would not be able to come all the way back. Arnold knocked down a pair of clutch free throws with 12 seconds left in regulation to hold off New Paltz for the 82-79 victory.
The Golden Eagles are back on their home floor again on Saturday. They welcome Oneonta for a 4pm tip-off at The Vlog.
