Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's basketball team lost at home Friday night to New Paltz, 69-54. Brockport is now 7-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the team with 11 points in the game, hitting 2-for-3 from long range.
Anna Lee scored nine points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting.
Zoe Zutes grabbed a team-high eight boards, while
Zairea Hannah had seven points and seven rebounds.
Juan Brown had eight points and teammate
Shannon Blankenship had seven points and four steals.
The first half of play was close as the two SUNYAC teams battled to an 8-8 tie at the midpoint of the opening quarter. New Paltz hit a couple jumpers late in the first to take a 17-16 lead going into the second.
Trailing by six in the second, back-to-back shots from deep by
Anna Lee and
Shannon Blankenship tied the score up at 22-22. However, the Hawks were able to go on another run to enter halftime with a 39-31 lead.
New Paltz began to build upon its lead in the third quarter. The visiting team eventually created a 14-point lead with 4:01 left in the period. The Hawks held onto that advantage, heading into the fourth with a 55-41 lead.
Brockport was unable to close the gap in the final quarter, as New Paltz extended the lead to 20 points early on. The Green and Gold would fall at home, 60-54, with another home game set for Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles are set to face-off against Oneonta on Saturday back at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm at The Vlog.
