Brockport Looks to Stay Hot Friday Night at Geneseo

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is on the road Friday night for a SUNYAC matchup with Geneseo. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.

Staying Hot: The Golden Eagles enter the weekend on an 8-game winning streak, after they dismantled Plattsburgh and Potsdam last week. They snagged a pair of conference wins on the road this past weekend to improve to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the SUNYAC. Brockport remains undefeated on the road at 8-0, and will put the perfect road record on the line Friday night.

Getting to the Line: With a lot of dribble-drive action embedded into the offense for the Green and Gold, the team does a good job of drawing contact at the rim. The squad has been rewarded for attacking the basket with plenty of trips to the free throw line. Averaging 23.1 free throw attempts per game, Brockport leads the conference and ranks 14th in the country.

Block Party: David Grady III has proven to be the top rim protector in the SUNYAC this year. He not only leads the conference, but his 45 blocks rank 16th in the nation. Grady is averaging 2.5 blocks per game, and has registered three or more blocks in nine games this season.

Hardwood Robbery: Also making an impact defensively is starting guard Tony Arnold. On the perimeter, Arnold has averaged 2.6 steals per game to lead the SUNYAC. With a total of 47 steals on the year, he ranks 13th in the country in steals.

Leading Scorers: The Golden Eagles have four players averaging at least 10 points a game, but Mekhi Beckett leads the offense. Beckett's 18.6 points a game is tops on the team and makes him the second leading scorer in the conference. Jahidi Wallace has contributed 13.1 points per game so far this year. David Grady III is scoring 12.7 points a game, while Tony Arnold is posting 11.1 points a night.

Against Geneseo: Earlier this season when these two teams met, Brockport pulled out the win at home, 62-61. It was a close game nearly the entire way, as the largest lead of the game by Brockport was 10 points in the second half. With 5:36 remaining to play, Brockport held a 62-57 lead and would not score for the rest of the contest. The Golden Eagles gave up just four points the rest of the way, sneaking out with a 1-point win. Mekhi Beckett led the team in scoring that night with 18 points, while also coming up with eight boards and a trio of steals.

Scouting the Knights: Heading into Friday's matchup, Geneseo is sporting a record of 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference. In its most recent game, the team was beaten by Oswego, 100-62. #23 Cole Kattan leads the Knights with 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. #1 Raymond Grabowski is the second leading scorer on the squad, putting up 10.5 points a night.

Back Home Next Weekend: The Golden Eagles return to their home hardwood next weekend for a set of conference battles. They host Potsdam on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30pm and Plattsburgh at 4pm on Saturday.
