Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC after narrowly defeating Geneseo, 62-61. In a tight game, neither team scored in the final two minutes of regulation on the way to a conference win for the Green and Gold.
Finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals,
Mekhi Beckett led the team in scoring.
Tony Arnold was close behind with 15 points to go with team-highs of nine boards and four assists.
David Grady III also neared a double-double like his teammates, posting 11 points and eight rebounds on the night.
The Geneseo Knights created separation in the first half, going up by eight points. The Golden Eagles got on a run attacking the basket, eventually taking its own lead. A pair of fastbreak buckets to end the half gave them a 45-37 lead at the game's midpoint.
It was a close game nearly the entire way, as the largest lead of the game by Brockport was 10 points in the second half. Geneseo cut the lead down to just three at the 14:26 mark in the second half. In a low scoring half, the visitors outscored the Green and Gold, 24-17, in the second.
With 5:36 remaining to play, Brockport held a 62-57 lead and would not score for the rest of the contest. The Golden Eagles gave up just four points the rest of the way, sneaking out with a 1-point win over their conference foe at home.
