Brockport's Historic Season Comes to an End with Semifinal Loss to Cortland

Cortland, NY - The Brockport field hockey team fell in the Semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament at Cortland on Wednesday, 4-0. The Golden Eagles will end the 2023 season 11-7 overall, the most wins for the Green and Gold since 2008.

Keirra Ettere found paydirt on Cortland's first shot on goal of the game for her 13th on the season to put the Red Dragons ahead,1-0, 10:07 into the first quarter. 

The Red Dragon's continued the pressure in the first, but Ella Buchanan made three saves to keep the score at 1-0. Buchanan would turn in another strong performance, finishing with 14 saves.

With less then five minutes left in the second, Cortland would double the advantage. Thanks to Gianna Trunfio's goal, the score read 2-0 in favor of the Red Dragons at halftime.

Brockport would find a scoring chance to open the third, with Paige Thowe's shot being saved by Emma Morgan. Morgan would go the distance for Cortland, making just the one save in a shutout win.

Ella Buchanan kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance in the third, making seven stops in the period.

The Red Dragons would finally break away in the fourth, with both Keirra Ettere and Gianna Trunfio adding their second goals on the contest to put Cortland ahead 4-0.

Brockport was unable to get back into the game, falling in the SUNYAC Semifinals while Cortland advances to the championship game on Saturday against New Paltz.

With the season coming to a close, the Golden Eagles put together a historic year highlighted by several team and individual accomplishments to celebrate.
