Cortland, NY – On Friday, the SUNY Brockport volleyball team faced top-seeded Cortland in the 2023 SUNYAC Semifinals. The No. 4 seeded Golden Eagles came up short, falling to the Red Dragons, 3-1.
The first set was highly competitive, as Brockport erased a 19-12 deficit in a comeback attempt. With
Maren Lutz on the serve, the Golden Eagles scored nine straight points to go up 21-19. However, Cortland snuck away with the first set point, 27-25, to go up 1-0.
The Red Dragons controlled the second set from start to finish, earning the 25-11 win to secure a 2-0 lead. Looking to avoid the sweep, the Green and Gold bounced back in the third. Brockport won the set, 25-20, making it a 2-1 tally for the match.
In the fourth set, Cortland took the win, 25-19, to win the semifinal match by a score of 3-1. The Red Dragons will advance to the SUNYAC Finals on Saturday at 4pm against New Paltz.
Jordan Thompson led the way for Brockport with 20 kills offensively. She also added three block assists, six digs, and one ace.
Alexis Sison got up for 14 kills, while
Megan Loomis finished with 11.

Elsie Logan got to the ball for a team-high 20 digs in the match.
Brooklyn Sullivan racked up 12 digs of her own.
Kaitlyn Jewett totaled 47 assists from her setter spot and also had seven digs.
Alenna Williamson had three block assists from the middle and notched nine kills.
Maren Lutz provided a lift for the squad with three service aces.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles have officially been eliminated from the postseason which brings their 2023 campaign to a close.
