Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team will begin regular season play on Tuesday, November 14
th at 6 pm on the road against Alfred State.
2022-23 Recap: The Golden Eagles finished last season with a 12-14 record with an even 9-9 mark in SUNYAC play, securing the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament. Sitting at 7-9 in SUNYAC play with two SUNYAC games remaining, the Green and Gold picked up two big home SUNYAC wins against Oswego State and Buffalo State to secure a spot in the postseason. The Golden Eagles season came to an end in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament, falling to No. 4 seed Geneseo, 67-61. Two players earned All-SUNYAC honors, with
Zairea Hannah (2
nd team) and
Anna Felice (3
rd team) representing the Golden Eagles. Hannah led the Green and Gold in several statistical categories, including total points (260), field goals (108), rebounds (248), and rebounds per game (9.9). Felice recorded 5 games with 15 points or more, adding 222 total points, adding herself to the prestigious 500-point club. Felice also added herself to the Brockport record books in single-season free throw percentage (.822, 2
nd all-time) and career free throw percentage (.791, 2
nd all-time).
SUNYAC Rookie of the Year: Following an impressive freshman season,
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. Jean-Baptiste led the way for the Brockport offense, leading the team in points per game (10.7), and three-pointers made (46). She will look to increase her impact for the team throughout her sophomore campaign.
Key Returners: The Golden Eagles return six of their top eight scorers from 2022-23, including
Zairea Hannah,
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste,
Anna Lee,
Zoe Zutes,
Hali Lucia, and
Shannon Blankenship. Brockport is also bringing back sophomores,
Tatum Smyth,
Mackenzie Higby, and
Madison Misser who will look poised for more action in the 2023-24 season.
Fresh Faces: Brockport welcomes 4 new additions, with
Mandy Brink,
Mallory Turner, and
Shasha Cooper making up the 2023-24 freshman class.
Kelsey Morgans is also joining the program, playing her first year with the team as a senior.
2023-24 Schedule: Following the season opener at Alfred, Brockport will host the 58 Main BBQ & Brew Tip-Off Classic, taking on Keuka College on Friday, November 17
th at 5 p.m., before taking on William Smith College on Saturday, November 18
th at 3 p.m. The Golden Eagles will play a pair of non-conference games against RIT at home (Tuesday, November 21
st at 6 p.m.) and Rochester on the road (Tuesday, November 28
th at 7 p.m.) before opening up SUNYAC play. Brockport will open SUNYAC play at home against Oneonta on Friday, December 1
st at 5:30, before taking on New Paltz on Saturday at 2 p.m. Following a pair of non-conference road matchups against Hamilton College (Wednesday, December 6
th at 7 p.m.) and Nazareth (Saturday, December, 9
th at 2 p.m.), the Golden Eagles will hit the road for back-to-back conference games following the break.

Breakout Candidate: Increasing her scoring from 81 points her freshman year to 122 points her sophomore year, junior
Zoe Zutes enters her junior year poised for a breakout. The East Rochester native is in line to be a primary forward for the Green and Gold, as Zutes saw her playing time increase from 16.4 minutes per game in her freshman year to 24.1 minutes per game in her sophomore season. Her impact was felt defensively with 45 blocks last year, which ranked second in the SUNYAC.
Scouting Alfred State: The Pioneers will enter Tuesday's contest with a 0-2 record, most recently falling to Oswego at home 67-39. Sophomore Taylor Benjamin has paced the Pioneer's offense thus far, averaging a team-high 10.5 points per game. The Golden Eagles will look for a repeat of last year's meeting, which ended in a dominant 78-41 win at home.
