Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Arnold With Another Clutch Basket Late for Brockport's 3rd Straight Win

New York, NY – Tuesday night the SUNY Brockport men's basketball won its third game in a row, defeating Hunter College, 70-67, on the road. Brockport improves to 3-1 on the season ahead of Thanksgiving break.

For the second game in a row, Tony Arnold played the hero for the Golden Eagles. With the score tied at 67-67 in the final 30 seconds, Arnold broke the tie with a jumper through contact and made the free throw.

His big play gave Brockport a 70-67 lead with 27 seconds remaining, as the team held on down the stretch for the win. This past weekend he scored the game-winning layup in a 68-66 win over Salisbury in the final seconds of regulation.

With 21 points, Mekhi Beckett led Brockport in scoring as he shot 4-for-8 from long range/ Beckett's performance set a new season-high in scoring to go with five boards. Tony Arnold came up big with 19 points, also setting a new season-best. He shot a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line and chipped in defensively with three steals.

Caquan Wester had his best outing with the Golden Eagles, chipping in all over with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Tyler Cowie grabbed a team-high and season-high of nine boards on the night.

Brockport seized the momentum in the first half, eventually building a 16-point lead (27-11) with 6:20 left before halftime. However, the Hunter College Hawks close the half with some strong shooting to cut into the deficit. A pair of free throws from Arnold would give the Golden Eagles an 8-point lead at the break (41-33).

Hunter continued the strong shooting to begin the second, as the Hawks took a 42-41 lead less than three minutes into the half. They stretched the advantage to eight points at the 15:16 mark, before Brockport started to get back into a rhythm. The Green and Gold tied the game at 55-55 with just over eight minutes left in regulation.

The Golden Eagles quickly turned the contest in their favor, jumping out to a 10-point lead (65-55) with 5:14 to play. Hunter College chipped away at Brockport's lead, tying the game once again at 67-67 with 51 seconds left on the clock.

On the next offensive possession, Tony Arnold would come in clutch for the Green and Gold. Drawing a foul, making the shot, and sinking the free throw he put Brockport up for good at 70-67. The Hawks had two 3-point shots in the final 10 seconds in an attempt to force overtime, but came up short.

The Golden Eagles look to keep their momentum of this three-game win streak following the holiday, as they play the fifth and final game of this road trip. They travel to Alfred University on Tuesday, November 28th for a 5:30pm meeting.
