11-4-23 BPort WSoc at Cortland (SUNYAC Final)

In their first conference final since 2008, Brockport was fighting for its first SUNYAC Title since 2006. Cortland gets back in the winner circle with its first SUNYAC Championship since 2019. Cortland earns the automatic bid in the national tournament, set to start on Saturday, November 11th.

Earlier during the regular season, the Green and Gold battled the Red Dragons at home to a 0-0 draw. They outshot Brockport, 14-6, overall and 6-2 in shots on goal. However, this time around in the conference finals things played out differently.

The shots were more even overall, as Cortland had a 10-7 advantage on Saturday. Brockport did place all seven shots on net, with the opposition having six shots on goal. Jaylah Cossin (3), Franchesca Polcaro (2), Katie Hotaling (1), and Elaine George (1) all had opportunities to score in the match.

The Red Dragon goalie Kristen Spendal was up for the task, making all seven saves to secure the clean sheet. On the other side, Brockport's Madeline McCrosson came up with three saves in a 90-minute effort in net.

Cortland's Liz Allen was assisted by Tyla Vuotto in the first half to create a, 1-0, lead going into halftime. The home team would build upon its lead with two more scores in the second half. Hannah Blacher, assisted by Katie Cosenza, had the second Red Dragon goal early in the second. Cosenza then added the insurance goal, assisted by Kayla Valerioti, to make it a 3-0 final.

Brockport's conference title run has officially come to an end, as Head Coach Mike Idland made his first SUNYAC Title appearance since taking over the program in 2016. The Golden Eagles won 12 games this season, tying Idland's career-high for a single season at Brockport.

After a deep postseason run that included a semifinal victory over Geneseo, the Golden Eagles await the decision of the NCAA Selection Committee for the potential of an at-large bid into the NCAA DIII Championships.
