Women's Basketball Prepares for a Pair of Non-Conference Games

Brockport, NY - The Brockport women's basketball team will head to Clinton, NY on Wednesday, December 6th at 7 pm to take on Hamilton College. The Golden Eagles will then head to Rochester, NY on Saturday, December 9th for a game against Nazareth at 2 pm.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles were outmatched at home last Saturday, falling to New Paltz, 89-59. They are now 5-2 overall on the season and off to a 1-1 start in SUNYAC play.

In 25 minutes of action, Shannon Blankenship put together a strong performance. She led Brockport with 13 points (2-for-3 3PT) off the bench, hustling for five rebounds and two steals.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (10 points) and Hali Lucia (10 points, 4-for-7 FG) also hit double-figures for Brockport. Lucia added a team-high five assists to her stat line.

Zairea Hannah led the Golden Eagles in rebounds (8), while also leading the contest in blocks (3).

Finding Her Groove: In her last two outings against Oneonta and New Paltz, Kelsey Morgans has put together her two best performances as a Golden Eagle. In addition to her great defense and hustle, Morgans scored nine points (3-for-5 FG) on an effective 50% shooting from long range against Oneonta. In the game with New Paltz, Morgans poured in seven points on 3-of-6 shooting, adding three rebounds and a steal.

Not in Her House: Through seven games, Zoe Zutes (2nd) and Zairea Hannah (6th) both rank among the Top-10 in the SUNYAC in blocks per game. Zutes leads the Green and Gold with 13 blocks, good for an average of 1.9 blocks per game. Hannah is close behind with nine blocks, averaging 1.3 blocks a night.

Picking Pockets: In addition to her scoring prowess, Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (17.1 pts/g) has been a threat to opposing ball handlers to begin the season. Her 18 steals leads the Golden Eagles by a wide margin, and is good for the second-best average in the SUNYAC at 3.1 steals per game. Shannon Blankenship cracked the SUNYAC Top-15 in steals as well with her 1.5 steals per game.

Scouting Hamilton: Hamilton has jumped out to an exceptional 8-0 start, most recently dismantling Fisher College, 60-20, last Saturday. Hamilton is led by dynamic forward Taylor Lambo, who leads Hamilton with 15.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. The Golden Eagles will head to Hamilton College looking to secure their first win against the Continentals since the 2015-16 season. The last meeting between the two programs (Jan. 15, 2019) saw Hamitlon take the win, 80-59.

Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers have soared to a 5-1 start, with an undefeated 2-0 mark in Empire 8 play. Following a, 53-47, loss against Rochester on November 16th, the Golden Flyers have strung together four straight wins. Brockport will enter Saturday's contest looking to avenge last year's, 79-76, overtime loss against Nazareth in Daytona Beach.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will return from winter break to take on Oswego on the road on Friday, January 5th at 5:30 pm.
