Boston, MA – Saturday was the final day of Boston University's David Hemery Invitational for the Brockport track and field athletes that traveled to compete. Several records were broken to go along with a handful of top-10 all-time performances on the day.
In the men's 5000-meter run,
Jared Smith ran a time of 14:48.88 to place 44
th in a field of 94 runners that crossed the finish line. With his performance, Smith set a new school record in the 5K, breaking the previous record set back in 2014.
The Golden Eagles had two top-30 finishers in the 3000-meter event that featured 79 competitors.
Thomas Kressly was 27
th with a time of 8:34.52, the second fastest time in program history.
Sean Killip ran an 8:35.24 for 34
th place, running the fourth fastest time in school history.
In the 800-meter,
Nick Markle registered a time of 1:54.59, beating the old school record by 0:00.01, to etch his name in the history books. Teammate
Kevin Fischer clocked in at 1:57.55 for the ninth best time in school history.
In the women's 4000-meter distance medley relay the squad ran a time of 12:45.16. Brockport's relay team was made up of Jennifer Metz, Clara Sensini, Kaylee Haynes, Veronica Dailey, Olivia Annunziato, Jocelyn Countryman, Lauren Yonko, and Sarah Davis.
Competing in the mile race,
Jonathan Zavala recorded a time of 4:09.80, breaking a 13-year old school record for the event.
The Golden Eagles will regroup for next week's meet, as Nazareth will host its Conference Tune-Up ahead of the SUNYAC Indoor Championships. They head to Nazareth on Friday, February 17
th.
