Zavala Breaks School & Facility Record in the 1K at Nazareth Tune-Up

Pittsford, NY – The SUNY Brockport track and field squad competed at the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up in the last meet before the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Jonathan Zavala set a new facility record at Nazareth's Golisano Training Center with a 2:29.41 in the men's 1000-meter. Zavala also sets a new program record, adding his name to the history books once again.
 
Kerry Flower also added her name to another spot in the books, running a 5:16.42 in the women's mile. This regional qualifying time is the seventh fastest in program history.
 
Four other Golden Eagles set new personal records in the mile. Sarah Davis ran a personal-best 5:25.93 to finish ninth in the event. Teammates Julianne Wilson and Meredith Masker placed 25th with a 5:29.81 and 26th at 5:30.48 respectively. Lydia Cox clocked in at 5:35.27 for 20th.
 
 Jennifer Metz ran her best 400-meter race of the season for a time of 1:00.93. This regional qualifying time was good for fourth on the day. Teammate Brianna Lawless (1:05.68) finished 15th with her season-best mark in the event.
 
In the men's 400-meter, Kevin Fischer took his turn to set a new career-best time. He placed fourth with a 51.58. Michael Durski also ran his best ever time in the event at 52.57.
 
Vanessa Ramos (1:03.17) and Courtney Bostic (1:03.60) took ninth and 10th with personal-best times in the 400-meter.
 
In the women's 800-meter, Jennifer Metz placed fourth with a regional qualifying time of 2:22.09. Veronica Dailey registered a personal record time of 2:25.16 to place seventh. Sophomore Mia Vizcaino also hit a new best for the event with a 2:27.45.
 
Taking the win in the women's long jump, Mia Montgomery leaped a personal record 5.66 meters. She is now tied for seventh in the nation.
 
Jason Marincic's shot put Prof 14.90 meters, moves him into third in the SUNYAC.
 
Freshman Katrina Chandler followed suit with a personal-best shot put of 12.02 meters on the women's side. She is now ranked fifth in the SUNYAC. Chandler also PR'd in the weight throw with a 15.26 to move into fourth in the conference.
 
Tess Eichner moves up to third in the conference in the women's pole vault. She cleared a height of 3.06 meters for a season-best. Madison Baker PR'd in the event with a 2.61 on the day.
 
Thomas Kressly placed third in the mile to run a regional qualifying time of 4:21.40. Jared Smith took seventh in the race with a 4:25.01.
 
Michael Durski, Josh Jeziorski, Ayden Grinion, and Kelly Brown ran a 3:26.70 in the men's 4x400-meter relay. They hit the regional standard for the event with their fastest time of the indoor season.
 
Sarah Levine ran a regional qualifying time of 8.04 in the women's 60-meter preliminary race before taking fifth in the finals with an 8.08. Hitting another regional mark in the 200-meter, Levine's 26.68 puts her at ninth in the conference.
 
Brianna Lawless hit a 27.35 in the 200-meter, her best of the season. Teammate Courtney Bostic PR'd in the event with a 27.49.
 
In the men's 200-meter, freshman Aaron Ottenwalder hit a personal-record time of 22.98 for sixth.
 
Josh Jeziorski took the win in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.11 meters.
 
The Golden Eagles will now prepare for SUNYACs, as they will host the Conference Championships for the indoor season. The action begins on Friday, February 24th with the final day on Saturday February 25th.
