Brockport, NY – After the first day of the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the SUNY Brockport men's track and field team sits in third place with 29 points.
In the men's 5000-meter race,
Jared Smith took fifth with a time of 15:15.84 for four team points. Teammate
Paul Suflita took eighth with a 15:25.86 to snag one point.
With a leap of 14.06 meters on his final attempt,
Alex Irving earned Brockport five points with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.
The throwers earned 11 points from the weight throw event, taking three spots in the top seven.
Matthew Jackson's mark of 15.41 placed fourth,
Jacob DeWilde earned fifth with a 15.02, and
Alex Rood's 14.31 was good for seventh.
In a battle for the pole vault title,
Dustin Meyer ended up with the silver medal. He grabbed the squad eight points with a second-place clearance height of 4.90 meters.
After four events have been completed in the men's heptathlon, freshman
Ian Szemcsak sits in fourth place with 2,412 points. He took second place in both the long and high jumps of the heptathlon competition.
Kelly Brown ran a 7.02 in the 60-meter dash, the second fastest preliminary time for the event. He will be back in action for the event finals on Saturday.
Earning the sixth fastest time for the 200-meter dash,
Aaron Ottenwalder's 22.64 has pushed him into the event finals. He also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter, thanks to his preliminary time of 7.09.
Ayden Grinion also earned a spot in the finals on day two in the 400-meter event. He clocked in with the third fastest preliminary time of 50.35.
The Golden Eagles are back at their home facility of The SERC on Saturday for the second and final day of the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The first events of the meet are set to begin at 10:30am.
