Men's Basketball Bounces Back With Home Win Over Potsdam

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team bounced back Friday night with a hard-fought win at home against Potsdam, 67-58. Brockport is now 16-4 overall and improves to 11-2 in conference play.

Doing most of his damage at the foul line, Jahidi Wallace scored a game-high 16 points. He went 8-for-10 at the line and grabbed eight rebounds.

With 10 points, 10 boards, and four blocks, David Grady III posts his fourth consecutive double-double. He now has six double-doubles this season.

Mekhi Beckett scored 13 points, while Tony Arnold tallied 10 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Both Zachary Rice and Davonte Jones came in off the bench to score eight points.

Brockport took a slim lead early on in the contest, but the tides would soon turn in Potsdam's favor. Just past the halfway mark of the first half, the visiting Bears would own a 21-11 lead over the Green and Gold. The Golden Eagles struggled from long range, going 1-for-14 in the half. However, they turned defense into offense to regain a lead as halftime approached.

Just before the halftime buzzer, freshman Zachary Rice hit a 3-pointer to give the team a 34-30 lead. The Golden Eagles made up for the poor shooting with solid defensive work and taking care of the ball better than their opponent. They only committed eight turnovers all game, compared to 15 by Potsdam.

Brockport made a few jumpers to get the second half started, seizing a 41-34 lead less than three minutes into the half. Both teams battled for every inch as the game roared on. Potsdam closed the gap heading into the final stretch, tying the score up at 56-56 with four minutes to play.

With 3:37 on the clock, the visiting Bears would break the tie and take a 58-56 lead. Brockport would tighten things up defensively down the stretch, keeping Potsdam from scoring again for the remainder of the game. Jahidi Wallace and Tony Arnold would both make clutch free throws for the Green and Gold to seal the win at home, 67-58.

The Golden Eagles are back at home for another conference matchup on Saturday. They will take on Plattsburgh for a 4pm start at The Vlog.
