Women's Basketball Bounces Back in Balanced Effort Against Plattsburgh

Brockport, NY - Brockport returned to action for a Saturday matinee, hosting the Plattsburgh Cardinals in a SUNYAC clash. The Golden Eagles would rebound after Friday night's loss, defeating the Cardinals, 67-54, pushing their record to 10-11 overall and 7-7 in the conference.
 
Early in the first quarter, the teams would trade blows, with the score being 8-7, in favor of Brockport, 3:15 into period. However, that would be all she wrote for the Cardinals in the first. Brockport would take total control, scoring 14 unanswered points to end the quarter, with baskets from five different players. The Golden Eagles would take a 22-7 lead into the first break.
 
Plattsburgh would end its scoring drought just over a minute into the second quarter. Brockport would respond with two free throws from Anna Lee, and each team would trade a couple of points. With the score at 26-11 in favor of Brockport, Plattsburgh would try to mount a comeback. The visiting Cardinals scored nine unanswered points to cut the deficit to just six.
 
With just over three minutes left, Juan Brown would end that Plattsburgh run. Brown and Lee would combine for eight points to end the half and help Brockport maintain a 34-26 lead going into the half.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, both teams offenses caught fire. The two teams would combine for 37 points in a back-and-forth third quarter. Just over five minutes into the period, a Zoe Zutes layup would extend the Golden Eagles lead to 12. Plattsburgh would quickly shrink the lead to seven, however that was the closest the Cardinals would get. Brockport ended the third with 12 points in the final 3:13 to take a 58-39 lead into the final quarter.
 
The fourth quarter slowed down significantly. Just over two minutes in, a Mackenzie Higby three-pointer would extend the lead to 24 for the Golden Eagles. They would give up nine straight points midway through the period, making the score 67-50 with under 3:30 remaining. Plattsburgh ran out of time, as the Golden Eagles would claim the 13-point victory to bring their conference record back to .500.
 
Brockport would end the game shooting 38.8% from the field, and hitting six of seven free throws. Juan Brown (Jr.) would lead the Golden Eagles with 14 points, to go with eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Zairea Hannah built off her impressive performance the night before, contributing a team-leading 12 rebounds, six points, and two steals. A total of nine players would tally points for Brockport.
 
The Golden Eagles are on the road next weekend for another significant set of conference games. They head to Oneonta on Friday, February 10th for a 5:30pm tip-off before taking on New Paltz on Saturday at 2pm.
