Brockport Goes 2-0 on First Day Down in Florida

Auburndale, FL – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team went 2-0 on the day in a double header against Clarkson University March 11th. This was the first day of the RussMatt tournament down in Orlando Florida. The men won the first game 5-4 and the second 9-3, earning them an overall record of 3-4 so far on the season.
 
Game One – Pat Bigham started of the big day of games with a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing teammate Johnny Genau home and Pastore to third. Putting Brockport up 1-0 early in the game. 
 
The second inning was a big one for the Golden Eagles, James Houlahan singled to left field, batting Jason Mansell in and allowing Justin Pangburn to advance to third. Houlahan then advanced to second on a balk, followed by Pangburn scoring on a balk. Genau followed that up with a single to left field, batting Houlahan into home. Genau scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.
 
Colin Pytlak started on the mound for the Golden Eagles pitching the first four innings. Anthon Lapine was called in from the bull pen and took over before Justin Delvecchio joined the game in the 5th. 
 
Clarkson scored their first two runs in the top of the fifth off a single to right field. 
 
Andrew Huffman relieved Delvecchio and pitched the final inning for the Green and Gold.
 
Clarkson scored twice more in the sixth but was not able to catch up in time. The Golden Eagles ending the game with a 5-4 win.
 
Colin Pytlak was credited with a win leading him to his first win of the season. Huffman's appearance on the mount earned him a save. 
 
Game Two – The second game of the day started very similar to the first. Bigham singled to right field, allowing him to bring home Houlahan. 
 
Clarkson got on the board early in the bottom of the 1st with a single to right field, loading the bases and allowing for a run to be scored. The same play was carried out one batter later allowing them to score again. Clarkson scored one more time before the inning ended, putting the Golden Eagles behind 3-1.
 
Houlahan didn't allow them the lead for long as he hit a single to left field bringing both Mason Davis and David Belsito home. Genau followed with a double, bringing home both Houlahan and Pangburn, putting Brockport back in the lead 5-3.
 
The field was quite until the top of the 7th. Zach Eldred started the last inning of the Double Header Day down in Florida out with a single, allowing Josh Indek to advance to second and batting Pastore home. Belsito hit a single to left field, bringing home both Eldred and Indek, while putting Ryan Mansell on third. Pangburn helped secure the insurance runs Brockport needed to finish of the game with a sacrifice bunt, bringing Mansell past home plate.
 
Brockport won the second game 9-3. Matt McGowan spent all 7 innings on the mound for the Green and Gold with 9 strikeouts and 120 pitches.
 
The Green and Gold will be back for Day Two of the RussMatt on Field 3 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, tomorrow for a 6:30pm game.
