Eldred’s Grand Slam Highlights, 9-4, Win Over NYU

Auburndale, FL – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team put up 9 runs to against to New York University on Friday afternoon at the RussMatt Tournament in Auburndale Florida, making the final score of the game 9-4.
 
The first couple innings were quiet and quick. Josh Indek made his first collegiate start at second base. Sean Becker also made his first collegiate start in left field. Adam Douglas started on the mound for the Green and Gold striking out the first two men up to bat before the third runner hit a single and then was caught stealing. Douglas made a total of 90 pitches, 60 of which were strikes. He struck out three batters, gave up four hits and one run in his five innings.
 
David Belsito earned a single in the first before both Nicholas Pastore and Eldred were walked. Johnny Genau reached first on a fielder's choice, pitcher to home plate tagging Belstio out before he could reach the bag.
 
Douglas only gave up one hit in the top of the second before Brockport was back up to hit but did not earn any bases. The top of the third was quite with only a single from NYU.
 
Eldred got the ball rolling for the Golden Eagles brining home his first runner of the day, Pastore on a single. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth Brockport scored four more runs, courtesy of Zach Eldred. James Houlahan was walked before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Belstio was hit by a pitched and took first, before Pastore singled to left field leaving the bases load when #3 stepped up to the plate. Eldred went yard hitting a grand slam score four runs. 
 
Justin DelVecchio went in for Douglas in the top of the sixth, with 34 pitches and 22 strikes. In DelVecchio's 1.1 innings he struck out one batter, allowed one hit and one run. 
 
Brockport scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth starting with a single to center field from Justin Pangburn. Houlahan followed that up with a bunt single. Frank Vanzillotta replaced Belsito as the Designated Hitter and reached first on a bunt and a fielder's choice. Pastore also reached first on a fielder's choice, getting Pangburn out before he could touch home plate. Eldred grounded out to the shortstop but brought home his sixth batter of the day, Houlahan. Genau hit a single to left field brining home Vanzillotta, leaving the Golden Eagles up 7-1 in the top of the 7th
 
NYU scored one run before Anthony Lapine replaced DelVecchio on the mound. Lapine threw 33 pitches and 22 strikes in his 1.2 innings. He had one strike out, allowed two hits and one run. They scored another run, sending Brockport into the bottom of the seventh up 7-2.
 
Cole Traudt and Jason Mansell started the innings with two good battles at the dish before Pangburn was walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Houlahan singled to right field brining Pangburn home.
 
NYU Scored one run in the top of the eight, sending Brockport into the bottom of the eight up 8-3. 
 
The Green and Gold started the eight with a big hit from Pastore earning himself a triple. Genau hit a single and then advanced to second on an error. Pastore capitalized on the same error making it all the way home, scoring Brockport's final run of the game. 
 
Cooper Meldrim stepped in for the top of the final inning, making 23 pitches, 15 of which were strikes. Meldrim let up a total of one hit, one run and struck one batter out. NYU scored one run in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough to pull of the win. 
 
Brockport Baseball will be back tomorrow afternoon to continue their run in the RussMatt Tournament at 1:30pm on Field #7 against Springfield College.
