Early Offense Earns Baseball's 4th Straight Win

Rochester, NY – The Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the first two innings of Wednesday's matchup with the University of Rochester. They took an early lead on the way to an 8-6 win on the road, improving to 8-6 overall after a fourth consecutive win.

Nicholas Pastore and Zach Eldred both went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Both batters also connected for one double and one triple in the contest.

James Houlahan went 2-for-4 with a run, a double, and one RBI. Justin Pangburn matched the 2-for-4 effort at the plate, knocking in one RBI.

Patrick Bigham led the team in the game with two RBIs, batting 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Johnny Genau was 1-for-5 with an RBI and one run, rattling off a double of his own. Nick Mahar added one hit in his four at-bats.

Getting his first win of the season, Justin DelVecchio (W, 1-0) got the start on the hill for the Green and Gold. He went 4.0 innings with three strikeouts, allowing just two earned runs.

Colin Pytlak and Nick Ianniello filled in for the middle innings, combining for 3.0 innings of work. Pytlak struck out two batters, while Ianniello allowed just one hit and one earned run.

Cooper Meldrim (S, 1) stepped into the game late, registering his first save of the season. The reliever went 2.0 innings with one strikeout and just one earned run allowed.

All of Brockport's work offensively was done in the first two innings of the day's game. Genau brought in Houlahan on an RBI double to get the show started in the first. Pastore and Eldred would both knock RBI triples to keep the bats going.

Getting some help from a passed ball situation, Eldred came in to score to make it a 4-0 lead. Houlahan came back around in the lineup, connecting for an RBI single that made it a 5-0 score after the first.

Leading the U of R by five runs going into the second, the Golden Eagles added more cushion to their lead. Bigham knocked a 2-RBI double to left center to make the score read 7-0. Pangburn kept it going with an RBI single, giving the squad its eighth run of the contest.

The hosting Yellowjackets tried to rally starting in the fifth inning. They scored four runs in the bottom of five, looking to make the game interesting in the final innings. Another run in the seventh, cut the deficit to 8-5 going into the eighth.

Brockport entered the bottom of the ninth inning still holding on to its 3-run advantage. U of R was able to bring one more run in to score, making it an 8-6 game. However, the Green and Gold put the game away to secure its fourth win in a row.

The Golden Eagles are back in action this weekend for a 3-game series with New Paltz to open up SUNYAC play. They travel for a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 12pm, and a single game set for Saturday.
