Brockport Goes 3-0 in New Paltz for First Weekend of SUNYAC Play

New Paltz, NY – The SUNY Brockport Men's Baseball team won 11-10 after five innings against SUNY New Paltz Saturday morning. The game ended after the third out in the bottom of the fifth due to rain and hail. 
 
James Houlahan got the ball rolling with a single to left field. Nicholas Pastore reached first by an error by the short stop, allowing Houlahan to advance to second. Zach Eldred reached first on a fielder's choice, while Houlahan advanced to third and Pastore was tagged out at second. Eldred stole second and Patrick Bigham was walked, leaving the bases loaded. Ryan Mansell made it to first on an error by the first basemen. This brought Houlahan and Eldred home for the first two runs of the day.
 
New Paltz scored three runs in the bottom of the first, going up 3-2. The Hawks scored four more runs in the second inning, heading into the third with a 7-3 lead.
 
The Golden Eagles fought back in the top of the third, earning two more runs to cut into the deficit. Eldred singled to right field, followed by Bigham being walked, to move Eldred to second. Mansell grounded out to the third basemen, but this advanced Eldred to third and Bigham to second. Brian Tietjen singled to right field, bringing home Eldred and putting Bigham on third base. Justin Pangburn walked and Tiejen advanced to second to load the bases. Coling Coykendall then hit a sac fly to score Bigham for the team's fourth run.
 
Johnny Genau and ended up on third with the help of a wild pitch. Bigham singled to right field and brought home Genau. Mansell singled to the pitcher and Bigham advanced to third, but the Golden Eagles left the pair of baserunners stranded. New Paltz scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, leaving the Golden Eagles trialing 10-5 out in the snow.
 
The top of the fifth was where it all changed as Brockport scored six runs. Pangburn was walked, as well as Houlahan and Genau. Pastore was then walked bringing Pangburn home. Eldred hit a double to score both Genau and Houlahan. Mansell then hit a double, bringing home both men left on base and evening the score at 10-10. Tietjen then hit a single to left field which brought Mansell in for the final run needed to win the last game of the three-game series in New Paltz.
 
New Paltz couldn't bring home another runner before the game was cut short due to snow and hail. Brockport came from behind to sneak out with the 11-10 victory, closing out the series sweep.
 
Matthew Colucci started on the mound for the Green and Gold, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing four hits, six runs and striking out four batters. Colin Pytlak played 2 innings, allowing four hits, four runs and striking out three batters. Ryley O'Connell pitched .2 innings and earned his first career win, allowing one hit, no runs and one strike out. Justin DelVecchio was awarded the save on the day, pitching .2 innings without letting up any runs or hits, and striking out one batter.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 11-6 on the season overall and 3-0 in conference play. With Tuesday's meeting with Cazenovia postponed, Brockport now prepares for its home opening series against Plattsburgh next weekend. A single game will be played on Friday at 3pm, with a doubleheader set for Saturday beginning at 12pm.
