Box Score 2 Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team hosted the Plattsburgh State Cardinals for a double header on the campus of MCC for two games of their three-game series this weekend. Brockport won the first game 6-5 in the eleventh inning, and won the second game, 2-1, thanks to a walk off home run from Brian Teitjen.
Game One – Adam Douglas pitched 8.1 innings as the starting pitcher for the Green and Gold. Douglas had a total of seven strike outs. He let up five hits and two runs across all 29 at bats and threw 114 pitches.
The Cardinals didn't have any hits in the top of the first. James Houlahan got the ball rolling with a double in the bottom of the first. Johnny Genau flied out bringing Houlahan to third. Unfortunately, there were not enough hits to bring him home.
Brockport had another hit in the bottom of the second, Pat Bigham hit a single to second field.
Plattsburgh had one hit in the top of the third. The first run was scored by the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the third. Justin Pangburn hit a double to center field. Jason Mansell grounded out to third with a sacrifice bunt, letting Pangburn advance to third. Houlahan singled, brining Pangburn home. Genau hit a single to right field, putting Houlahan on second. Both men advanced one base on a wild pitch. Pastore lined out to first and Eldred was out swinging, leaving both men on base.
Plattsburgh scored one run in the top of the fourth and had three hits. Brian Teitjen had a hit in the bottom of the fourth, with a single to left field. Houlahan had a hit in the bottom of the fifth with a single to center field, but the game remained quiet until the bottom of the sixth where Brockport scored three runs.
Zach Eldred started the inning off with a double to center field, followed by a single to center from Pat Bigham. Eldred scored on Bigham's hit. Ryan Mansell flied out to center field and Bigham stole second base. Tietjen singled, bringing Bigham home and Pangburn singled letting Tietjen advance to second. Jason Mansell grounded into a double play. The men went into the top of the seventh up 3-1.
The field was quiet again until the bottom of the eight with a single from Eldred.
Platsburgh scored twice in the top of the ninth, evening the score up. Brockport had a hit by Tietjen and some movement around the field but couldn't bring a man home sending the SUNYAC Opponents into the top of the tenth inning tied 3-3.
The Cardinals scored twice in the top of the tenth.
The Golden Eagles came to battle, scoring two runs in the bottom of the tenth not letting them off easy. Eldred started the inning with a walk. Pat Bigham was hit by a pitch moving Eldred to second. Frank Vanzillot was put in to pinch run for Bigham at first. Ryan Mansell walked, and both men on base advanced. Eldred made it home on a wild pitch and both men advanced a base. Pangburn flied out to left field on a sacrifice, batting in Vanzillot to tie up the game.
The Cardnials failed to bring home a runner in the top of the eleventh leaving it to the Golden Eagles to lock up the game. Houlahan singled to third base and Genau grounded out as a sacrifice to move Houlahan to second. Nicolas Pastore was intentionally walked and Eldred reached first on a fielder's choice, bases loaded. Nick Mahar reached on a fielder's choice, and Houlahan went home for the final run of the 6-5 game.
Jusrtin Delvecchio entered the game in the top of the tenth, pitching 1.2 innings. He earned two strike outs, let up four hits and two runs. Anthony Lapine came in for the final winning, earning a win. Lapine struck out one batter and let up no hits or runs, securing the win for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two – McGowan started the second game on the mound for the Green and Gold. McGowan struck out five batters, and let up four hits but no runs in his seven innings.
The field was quiet with no runs scored until the top of the ninth.
Ryan Mansell had a hit in the second inning and Tietjen hit a single to left field in the fourth. Houlahan hit a single to center field in the bottom of the fifth. Pat Bigham hit a double in the bottom of the sixth.
Cooper Meldrim pitched the eighth inning of the game, striking out two batters, letting up zero hits and no runs.
Nick Ianniello pitched the ninth inning letting up two hits and one run.
Plattsburgh scored one run in the top of the ninth.
Ryan Mansell kicked off the bottom of the ninth with a triple to right center. He then ran home on a passed ball, tying up the score at 1-1. Brian Tietjen was up to bat next and hit a walk off home run to left field for a final score of 2-1, Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles will be back at the MCC Baseball field for the final game of the three-game series tomorrow morning at 9am.
