Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team picked up its first win in conference play on Saturday. The squad dominated Potsdam, 14-3, improving to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.
For the second game in a row,
Cassidy Burnash set a new career-high in points. This outing she finished with three goals and eight assists for a total of 11 points. Burnash tied the second most points and second most assists in a single game in program history.
Julia Quinlan had a team-high of four goals on the day. This marks her season best output and ties her career-high.
Courtney Cunningham registered her second hat trick of the season. She recorded thre goals, four ground balls, and five draw controls.
Alayna Foos chipped in with two goals and two assists for the Green and Gold. Both
Brooke Beetow and
Paige Thowe found the back of the net once in the contest.
Taylor Ford was disruptive defensively, forcing a team-high and career-high five turnovers.
Hannah Parsons picked up the first win of her collegiate career in net. The freshman goalie made eight saves and allowed just three goals.
The Potsdam Bears struck first in this one, finding the back of the net less than five minutes into the first quarter. However, that would be their only goal of the first half. The Golden Eagles went on to score eight unanswered goals the remainder of the half to take an 8-1 lead into the break.
Burnash got the scoring started and was followed by Cunningham to make it a 2-1 lead for Brockport after one. Four different players scored in the second as squad blew the game wide open. Beetow, Quinlan, Thowe, and Burnash all got on the board to give the Green and Gold a 7-goal lead.
The Bears would score the first goal of the second half as well, but they were too far out of the game to mount a comeback. Burnash continued to find her teammates for scores in the third and fourth quarters. Cunningham and Quinlan both completed their hat tricks in the third to help Brockport take a 10-goal lead into the final frame.
With two more goals in the final quarter the Golden Eagles coasted through the finish line for the 14-3 win on the road. They are back on the road on Tuesday, April 4
th for a 4pm matchup with Fredonia.
