Golden Eagles Drop a Pair at Home to Cortland

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team hosted Cortland on Friday for a conference doubleheader. The Red Dragons took both games on the day by scores of 11-0 and 14-4.

Game 1

Cortland took an early lead with a run in the top of the first and led from start to finish. The team added one more run in the fourth before blowing the game wide open with a 9-run inning in the fifth.

Although the Green and Gold did not score a run, Emma DeJesus went 2-for-2 at the plate. Kellie Gentile also connected at the plate, going 1-for-2 in the game.

Fiona Gibiser threw her 11th complete game of the season as the starting pitcher. She struck out four while allowing 14 hits and six earned runs in the loss.

Game 2

Again, the visiting Red Dragons got on the board in the top of the first inning in the second game of the doubleheader. They took an early 5-0 lead, but Brockport responded in the bottom of the first.

With an RBI double, Annie Dipirro brought Emma DeJesus around to score to give the Golden Eagles their first run of the day. They would enter the third inning down, 6-1, after Cortland added one more run in the second.

Dipirro provided Brockport's highlight of the day in the third with a 2-run homer, which scored DeJesus once again. Annie was fantastic at the plate in game two going 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, and a season-high four RBIs.

DeJesus went 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored, making her 4-for-5 altogether at the plate on Friday.

The Red Dragons had another big inning in the fourth with six runs and added two more in the fifth to hold a 14-3 lead. Dipirro's third hit of the game was an RBI single that scored Kellie Gentile in the bottom of the fifth.

Brockport's deficit proved to be too large for any sort of comeback, as Cortland swept the doubleheader on the day. Roseland Stroh started and pitched the full game for the Green and Gold, her fourth complete game of the season.

The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Oswego for another doubleheader on their home field. The action gets started at 10am for this SUNYAC matchup.
