Baseball Defeats Nationally Ranked Red Dragons, 13-3, in Conference Play

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team earned a the, 13-3, win today over Cortland in the final game of the SUNYAC series, improving to 22-10 overall and 12-3 in conference play. This is the first 3-game series victory for Brockport against Cortland since 2017.
 
Colin Pytlak is now 4-3 overall this season after earning his win today on the mound. Pytlak pitched five innings just letting up one run, two hits and three walks. He struck out five batters across 17 at bats.
 
The field was quiet until the bottom of the second where Brockport scored their first two runs of the game. Zach Eldred reached first by an error on the short stop. Ryan Voight reached first on a fielder's choice and Eldred was tagged out on his way to second. Ryan Mansell singled to right field and Voight advanced to third. Mansell advanced to second on a wild pitch. Johnny Genau reached first on a throwing error by the short stop and then advanced to second. Voight and Mansell both scored.
 
Brockport scored two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nicholas Pastore hit a single to right field getting on base. Eldred hit a double and brought home Pastore. Voight hit a single to rf and brought home Eldred for the fourth run of the day.
 
In the bottom of the fourth Genau hit a single to left field. Josh Indek was walked and Genau advanced to second. James Houlahan singled on a bunt, both Genau and Indek advanced. With bases loaded Justin Pangburn hit a single and brought home Genau. Indek then scored on a past ball. Houlahan was left on third and Pangburn left on second when the inning ended with a swinging strike out.
 
Cortland scored one run in the top of the fifth inning and their final two in the top of the sixth.
 
Brockport scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Houalhan was hit by a pitch and Pangburn singled, putting men on first and second. Pastore grounded out to second, Pangburn advanced to second and Houlahan advanced to third. Zach Eldred singled, batting in Houlahan and Pangburn for the seventh and eighth runs of the game.
 
Brockport scored their final five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. After a rain delay stopped the game briefly at Clark V. Whited, Zach Harter came out ready. On the first pitch off the rain delay Harter hits a home run to right field, setting the tone for the inning. Mansell hit a single and Genau sacrificed a bunt, moving Mansell to second. Indek sacrificed on a bunt as well, putting Mansel on third. Houalhan reached first on an error by the third basementand Mansell scored. Justin Pangburn singled and Houalhan advanced to second. With men on first and second, Nicholas Pastore hit the ball over the fence for the second home run of the inning, bringing in Pangburn and Houlahan. With a score of 13-3 in the bottom of the seventh The Golden Eagles take the win with the mercy rule coming into play.
 
Nick Ianniello pitched 0.2 innings, gave up two runs and four walks and struck out two batters. Cooper Meldrim played the final 1.1 innings of the seven-inning game, striking out one batters and letting up two walks.
 
Brockport will be back at Clark V. Whited on Wednesday, April 26th at 3:30pm for a game against St. John Fisher University.
