Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team hosted Plattsburgh State on Saturday for a Senior Day doubleheader at the Clark V. Whited Complex. The visiting Cardinals swept the Green and Gold with wins of 6-2 and 12-2.
Prior to the start of the set, the Brockport senior class was recognized and honored in a short Senior Day ceremony. This year's group of seniors includes
Olivia Hayden,
Hailey Burdick,
Jenna Downey,
Hannah Jacobs,
Amanda Blakely, and
Annie Dipirro.
Game 1
The lone runs for the Golden Eagles came from senior
Annie Dipirro's 2-run homer in the fourth inning. She went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the game. Fellow seniors
Amanda Blakely and
Hannah Jacobs both finished 2-for-3 in the first leg of the doubleheader.
Plattsburgh got on the board first with five runs in the second inning, taking advantage of several Brockport fielding errors. Dipirro cut into the lead with her 2-run homer in the fourth, making the score 5-2 heading into the fifth.
The Cardinals added another run in the sixth, finalizing the score at 6-2.
Fiona Gibiser pitched all 7.0 innings allowing eight hits and six runs, all unearned.
Game 2
Following Dipirro's lead from the first game, senior
Hailey Burdick decided to launch a homer in her only at bat of game two. Burdick stepped in as a pinch hitter in the fifth to knock her first career home run at Brockport.
Riley Barrett and
Kellie Gentile both batted 2-for-4 in the contest. Gentile was also able to come around to score in the first inning after a fielding error by Plattsburgh.
Roseland Stroh started at pitcher, going 3.0 innings for the Green and Gold.
Victoria Angelo and
Laina Beer also stepped into the circle to finish out the game for the squad.
The Golden Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after Dipirro put the ball in play, scoring Gentile. However, Plattsburgh responded with a trio of runs in both the third and fourth innings to go up 6-1.
Burdick then hit a solo shot over the left-center field fence to make the score read 6-2. The Cardinals extended their lead with three more runs in the sixth inning to go up 9-2. Then they scored three more in the seventh to put the game away with a 12-2 final.
The Golden Eagles are back on their home field Sunday for the final series of the season. They welcome Potsdam to Clark V. Whited Complex for a 12pm start to the SUNYAC doubleheader.
