Brockport, NY – In the season opener for Brockport men's soccer, the Golden Eagles hosted RIT under the lights on Friday night. With a late goal from
Chuck Domm's penalty kick, Brockport was able to tie the game up for a 1-1 draw.
In a hard-fought battle at home, Brockport found itself trailing 1-0 late in the second half. With just two minutes left to play, Domm was awarded the penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box. The RIT goalie had no chance on the shot, as his goal pushed the match to a tie.
Both Brockport and RIT will begin the 2023 campaign at 0-0-1.
The first half of play was scoreless despite the two teams combining for 19 shots. RIT had a slight edge in the shooting category, 11-8, and had three more corner kick chances than Brockport through the first 45 minutes.
All-Conference goalkeeper
Andrew Taylor made six of his seven saves on the night in the first half.
Russ Domm,
Warren Banks, and
Max Voyer all fired shots on the RIT goalie, but Jason Trapp was up to the task to keep it 0-0 in the opening half of play.
The tone of the game changed early in the second half. The visiting Tigers cleaned up a free ball in the box after a corner kick for the first score of the game. Randy Dickersbach was there for the goal to put RIT up 1-0.
In a game that featured seven yellow cards, Brockport continued to fight for scoring chances down the stretch. Finally in the final couple minutes,
Chuck Domm was awarded the penalty kick for the Golden Eagles. Domm's laser of a shot beat Trapp to tie the game at 1-1.
Nobody else would find the back of the net in the final two minutes of play, closing the opening chapter of the season with a 1-1 draw.
The Golden Eagles are back on their home field once again on Sunday, September 3
rd for a 1pm start against Elmira.
