Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener, 1-0, to Skidmore

Box Score Saratoga Springs, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team came up short against the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds, losing 1-0 in the first game of the 2023 season. The loss on the road puts Brockport at 0-1 to begin the 2023 campaign.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the first half, with Skidmore outshooting the Golden Eagles, 13-9. Freshman Amelia Breton provided some pressure with five shots in the first, but only one required saving. The best scoring chance of the half belonged to Megan Gerber on a penalty kick just before halftime. Her shot went wide, providing a scoreless opening 45 minutes to start the season for both squads.

It all changed after the break as Skidmore scored a goal in the second half to go up 1-0. In the middle of the second half, Skimore's Ella Stone found Izzy Sullivan for what would become the game-winner. Brockport had a total of 13 shots to Skidmore's 25. Brockport was awarded five corner kicks while Skidmore got three.

Madeline McCrosson played 90 minutes in the net for the Green and Gold in the season opener. The sophomore goalie set a new career-high with 12 saves, allowing one goal.

The Golden Eagles will be on the road again Sunday, September 3rd at noon in Greenville, Pennsylvania for a matchup with Thiel College.
