Brockport, NY – The Women's soccer team will head on the road this Wednesday, September 13
th for a matchup against Alleghany College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The following Saturday, September 16
th, the Golden Eagles will return home to host Juniata College at 1pm on the New Turf for the Community and Youth Celebration Game.
Community and Youth Celebration: This weekend's game will be the Community and Youth Celebration Game here at Brockport. The Golden Eagles will be welcoming the Brockport Soccer Club U10 Girl's Team to the field for the event. Youth soccer players will be joining the Green and Gold on the field for warmups and introductions prior to the start of play. The visiting club team will play a short exhibition match during halftime of Saturday's game.
Last Time Out: Brockport continued its shutout, win streak to four games this past week after shutting out both Keuka College and Houghton University. The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team defeated the Keuka Wolves, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon in Brockport before beating Houghton at home, 6-0, over the weekend.
Against Keuka,
Megan Gerber opened the first half with a quick goal just 6:36 into the game. She was assisted by freshman
Amelia Breton on the score.
Lara Kanbur stole the show scoring at 23:46 into the first half, unassisted. After a teammate's shot was saved, Kanbur was there for the rebound for the second Brockport goal of the day. The Golden Eagles entered halftime with a 2-0 lead over the visiting Wolves. After the 10-minute, halftime intermission the women returned to the field for the second half. The teams went scoreless through most of the second half, until the final three minutes of regulation.
Franchesca Polcaro snuck the ball past the goal keeper into the bottom right corner, assisted by
Jaylah Cossin, at the 87:49 mark. Polcaro's goal secured the 3-0 final for the victory at home.
The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team kept the streak alive with win number four over the Houghton Highlanders. Brockport improved to 4-1 on the season after a fourth consecutive shutout.
Lara Kanbur lit it up with a career-high five points, scoring two goals for the first time in her career to go with an assist. Registering an assist and a goal each,
Katie Hotaling and
Jaylah Cossin both totaled three points.
Karlie Mann and
Lyndsey Millerboth scored the first goals of their collegiate careers against Houghton. Brockport had a total of 12 shots and five corner kicks throughout the game. Houghton had five shots and was awarded just one corner kick.
Looking at the Gators: Alleghany is 1-3 overall on the season, putting up a total of four goals and 58 shots. They average 14.5 shots a game, 0.431% on goal. Leading the Gators in points is Julieta Schworm with one goal and one assist. She has put up a total of 10 shots so far this season. In goal for the Gators is Kari May. May has played a total of 360:00 minutes, allowed nine goals and has made 27 saves. She allows 2.25 goals a game on average.
Looking at the Eagles: Juniata is 2-1 overall so far this season. They have a total of 8 goals scored and 27 shots. They average nine shots a game and 2.67 goals. Leading the team in points is Savanna Murray with five, two goals and an assist. In goal for the Eagles is Cati Besch, Julia Lane and Avery Zales all spending 90:00 minutes in goal so far this season. Besch has made four saves this season, allowing no goals giving her a shutout win. Lane has made six saves, allowing one goal earning her one win. Zales has allowed two goals, made six saves and has one loss on the season so far.
Up Next: Following this week of nonconference play the women will head on the road for their first SUNYAC game of the season at Buffalo State on Wednesday, September 20th at 7pm.
