Oneonta, NY – In a SUNYAC tilt against the No. 6 nationally-ranked Oneonta Red Dragons, the Brockport men's soccer team pulled off the upset, 1-0. Improving to 5-2-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the SUNYAC, the Golden Eagles are now in first place in the conference standings with 10 points.
After falling to Oneonta by way of a shootout in the SUNYAC Finals last year, Brockport got revenge on Saturday in dramatic fashion. At the 89:12 mark,
Giovanni Cardona assisted
Russ Domm for the game-winning score.
The nationally recognized Red Dragons outshot the Green and Gold, 14-11, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 9-8. Brockport's
Andrew Taylor was up for the challenge all game, making six saves to record the clean sheet.
Domm now has five goals on the season to lead the Golden Eagles offensively. Netting his second game-winner of the year, he is tied for third in the SUNYAC. Taylor gets his fifth win and third shutout in net, while Cardona registers his first assist of the campaign.
No. 6 Oneonta suffers its first loss of the season, moving to 9-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference. Two years in a row now, Brockport has defeated a nationally-ranked Oneonta team in the regular season. In 2022, the squad took down the No. 16 Red Dragons, 2-0, at home.
The Golden Eagles are on the road once again on Tuesday, October 3
rd for a non-conference match with the Houghton Highlanders at 5pm.
