Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagle swim and dive teams celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a pair of wins. The men's team defeated Hobart, 187-49, and the women picked up a win against William Smith, 188-106.
Brockport's men improve to 1-3-1 overall in dual competition this season, getting the first victory of the year. On the women's side of the action, the squad moves to 3-2 overall in duals.
In the men's 50-yard freestyle, the Green and Gold took one/two/three in the race.
Jace Fredericksen won the event (23.98),
Matt Cole took second (25.53), and
Ryan Sampson placed third (25.90).
Alex Scaglione won the 100-meter freestyle with his time of 51.90. In the 200-free,
Michael Laviani swam a 1:56.44 for the win and
Jack Olsian was second with a 2:00.14.
Sampson picked up his own win with a 5:50.71 performance in the 500-yard freestyle. Teammate
Joe Keeney was second in the race with his time of 6:06.84. Fredericksen went uncontested in the 1,000-free (11:12.51) to score some easy points.
Matthew Chan celebrated his Senior Day with a 27.77 in the 50-yard backstroke to win the event. Fellow senior
Logan Kime was third in the race with a 32.11. Cole (1
st – 1:00.54) and Laviani (2
nd – 1:01.51) went uncontested in the 100-back.
In the men's 100-yard breaststroke,
Luca Olivieri clocked in at 1:03.58 to win the race for Brockport.
Garrett Nanna picked up the win in the 50-yard butterfly with a 25.93.
Keeney (59.82), Scaglione (1:01.36), and Nanna (1:01.60) won the top three spots in the 100-fly. Olivieri grabbed another win with a time of 57.56 in the 100-yard IM.
On the diving board,
Ren Watson took first place in both diving competitions. They won on the 1-meter board with a score of 213.80 and won on the 3-meter board with a 236.75.
Olsian, Nanna, Fredericksen, and Olivieri combined for a first-place time of 1:32.55 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Golden Eagles got the win again with a time of 1:45.80. The relay team was made up of Olivieri,
Josh Lauzonis, Keeney, and Scaglione.
On the women's side of the pool, Brockport took first/second/third in the 50-free.
Elizabeth Sagan swam a first-place time of 25.28, finishing ahead of
Emma Butler (2
nd – 26.80) and
Emma Purvis (3
rd – 28.77).
The Golden Eagles took the top three spots again in the 100-free.
Madison Parobek won the event with a 57.10,
Addy Martino was second with a 1:00.03, and
Maddie Erhardt swam a 1:00.38 for third.
Parobek snagged first place again in the 200-yard freestyle event, swimming a time of 2:08.44.
Miya Vitale placed second with a 5:46.15 in the 500-free. Vitale also snagged first place in the 50-back (28.94), with Erhardt taking second (32.37).
Clocking in at 11:29.81,
Emily LeFrois-Heath won the 1,000-yard freestyle race.
Sarah Kilburn's 1:05.80 was good for first in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior
Brienne Westfall took second in the event with a 1:08.80.
The Green and Gold earned first/second/third again in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Sam Whitman (1
st – 33.81) won the race,
Kyla Bugbee took second (2
nd – 34.98), and
Leah Allen-Comella placed third (3
rd – 36.01).
Brockport grabbed another win in the 100-yard breaststroke thanks to LeFrois-Heath's time of 1:14.96. She also led the pack in the 50-fly with a time of 27.91 for another first place finish.
Kilburn grabbed another chunk of points for the squad with a winning time of 1:03.12 in the 100-yard butterfly. Westfall added a second-place finish in the 100-yard IM to her day with a time of 1:09.81.
Kyra Russ celebrated her Senior Day with first-place scores on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. She scored a 269.15 on the 1-meter and a 252.75 on the 3-meter. Fellow senior divers
Caroline Rossi (3
rd – 188.85) and
Emily Justa (4
th – 153.20) scored on the 1-meter board.
The group of Sagan, LeFrois-Heath, Parobek, and Kilburn took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.06.
In the 200-yard medley relay, it was Brockport's group of Vitale, Martino, Kilburn, and Sagan that won the race with a time of 1:52.93.
The Golden Eagles now look ahead to a meet on the road at Monroe Community College at 5:30pm on Friday, January 26
th.
