Men's Basketball Set for Trio of Road Games This Week

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will on the road for three straight games this week. It starts on Tuesday at Buffalo State (7:30pm), then continues with a Friday night trip to New Paltz (7:30pm) and finishes up Saturday at Oneonta (4pm).

Last Weekend: The Golden Eagles played Potsdam and Plattsburgh on their home floor last weekend for a pair of conference matchups. Against Potsdam, the team took care of business with an 83-74 victory. The next day Brockport lost to Plattsburgh, 69-64, as the second half comeback fell short. After going 1-1 over the weekend, Brockport is now 12-6 overall and 8-4 in the SUNYAC.

SUNYAC Picture: The regular season is beginning to wind down, as the 1st Round of the SUNYAC Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th. At 8-4 in conference play, the Green and Gold currently hold the third spot in the standings. Here is the full listing of the conference standings ahead of Tuesday night's matchup with Buffalo State:

  1. Oswego (11-0)
  2. New Paltz (9-2)
  3. Brockport (8-4)
  4. Geneseo (7-5)
  5. Oneonta (6-5)
  6. Plattsburgh (6-5)
  7. Cortland (5-6)
  8. Fredonia (2-9)
  9. Potsdam (2-9)
  10. Buffalo State (0-11)

Against Buffalo State: The Buffalo State Bengals remain at the bottom of the conference at 0-18 overall and 0-11 in the SUNYAC. They are still looking for their first win of the season. Nigel Burch leads the way for the squad, averaging 13.1 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. When these teams played in Brockport earlier in the year, the Golden Eagles needed overtime to pull out the win. They held off the Bengals for a 79-75 victory, beating Buffalo State for the seventh straight time in the head-to-head series.

Looking at New Paltz: Currently on a 5-game win streak, the New Paltz Hawks own a record of 15-3 overall and 9-2 against SUNYAC opponents. They have won seven of their last eight games, with the only loss coming against a nationally ranked Oswego team. Ryan Blondo and AJ Knight lead the team's scoring efforts, as both are averaging 12.9 points a game. The Hawks got the better of the Golden Eagles in the first meeting this season, 67-55. Brockport struggled from downtown in the game, going just 3-for-31 from beyond the arc in the loss.

Scouting Oneonta: The Oneonta Red Dragons enter this week at 9-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play. The totaled 191 points offensively last weekend in a pair of wins against Fredonia and Buffalo State at home. Oneonta has four players averaging double-digit points per game this season, led by Elijah Castillo's 14.6 points a night. Earlier this season Brockport defeated Oneonta at home, 87-76, behind Caquan Wester's 19pt-11reb double-double.

Looking Ahead: Following these three games on the road, Brockport will return to its home court next week. The Golden Eagles will host Cortland on Friday, February 9th for a 7:30pm tip-off.
