Brockport, NY – This weekend the SUNY Brockport women's basketball team hits the hardwood for the first time in 2024. Currently 5-4 overall with a 1-1 conference record, the Golden Eagles are on the road for back-to-back SUNYAC matchups.
 
Catch the Action: Brockport will take on Oswego State at 5:30pm on Friday, January 5

Getting Buckets: Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and 
Zairea Hannah are the two leading scorers for the Golden Eagles. SJB is averaging 17.1 points a game, making her the third-leading scorer in the conference. She leads the squad with 13 made 3-pointers and is shooting 74.1% at the foul line. Hannah is putting up 10.3 points a game, nearly averaging a double-double through nine games.
 
The Playmaker: Hali Lucia is currently leading the team in assists with 33 total so far this season. She was Brockport's leading playmaker last year (62 assists) and is on pace to improve upon that mark this season. Lucia is tied for third in the SUNYAC in both total assists and assists per game (3.7).
 
Crashing the Boards: Zairea Hannah grabs an average of 9.8 boards each contest to lead the rebounding effort for Brockport. She is the second-leading rebounder in the SUNYAC, and is also second in the conference with 32 offensive rebounds this season. 
Zoe Zutes is snagging 5.6 rebounds a game, while 
Shannon Blankenship is averaging 4.9 boards per game.
 
Defensive Effort: Zoe Zutes and 
Zairea Hannah have been effective protecting the basket for Brockport. Zutes ranks third in the SUNYAC with 15 total blocks, while Hannah is close behind at fourth in the conference with 13 swats. 
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste has played the passing lanes well defensively, coming up with 22 steals to rank fourth in the conference.
 
Facing the Lakers: The Oswego State Lakers have won five games in a row heading into Friday night's contest. They are 6-2 overall and 2-0 against conference opponents so far this year. Oswego's scoring is a team effort, as there are five players scoring at least six points a game and no individual is averaging double-digits. The Lakers played their last game back on December 17
th, when they took down SUNY Poly, 67-43.
 
Looking at Cortland: The Red Dragons are entering the weekend 6-3 overall and undefeated at 2-0 in the SUNYAC. They will matchup with Geneseo on Friday (5:30pm) ahead of Saturday's game with Brockport. Cortland is led by #15 Logan Streety, as the senior averages 14.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, and is shooting 59.8% from the floor. She has scored double-digits in all but one game so far this season. Most recently, Cortland dominated in its last two outings. The team defeated SUNY Poly, 88-31, and Utica, 82-44.
