Men's Basketball Hosts Buffalo State Tuesday Night

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is at home on Tuesday night (Jan. 9th) for a 6pm matchup against Buffalo State.
 
Last Weekend: The Golden Eagles split a pair of road contests this past weekend in conference play. They started the back-to-back set with a loss to No. 10 Oswego, 78-68. The next day the Green and Gold bounced back against the Cortland Red Dragons. After playing to a tied score of 62-62 in regulation, the contest headed to overtime. Brockport outscored Cortland, 18-10, in overtime to steal the win on the road, 80-72.
 
Big Night for Tavarez: In the win over Cortland, freshman Alex Tavarez had the best outing of his brief collegiate career. He posted a career-high 30 points, shooting 11-for-17 from the floor. He scored 12 of his points in overtime, leading Brockport to the win on the road. Tavarez has hit double-digit points in five straight games now, averaging 15.8 points a game during this stretch.
 
Golden Eagle Stats: Ten games into the season, the Golden Eagles are averaging 73.3 points per game as a team. They are shooting 41.6% from the field, 30.2% from beyond the 3-point arc, and 66.9% at the charity stripe. Defensively, Brockport is allowing 71.1 points a game to opposing teams. Opposing offenses are posting shooting splits of 41.4/31.9/71.6 this season.

Looking at the Bengals: Buffalo State is currently 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the SUNYAC this season. Still looking for their first win of the season, the Bengals are averaging 58.8 points per game through the first 10 contests. Nigel Burch leads the squad with his 14.1 points a night, while Matt Parkinson is posting 12.8 points a game. Buffalo State lost last weekend's back-to-back set against Potsdam (77-60) and Plattsburgh (78-52).
 
Against Buffalo State: Heading into Tuesday night's game, Brockport has defeated the Bengals in six straight meetings. The Green and Gold's advantage in this matchup is furthered by winning 13 of the last 14 games against this conference opponent. The last game between Brockport and Buffalo State resulted in a 99-68 win for Brockport at home.
