Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team was on the road Saturday for a big Empire 8 matchup with St. John Fisher. Brockport came up short in the conference clash, 1-0, moving to 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the E8.
The Golden Eagles put the pressure on in the first, half outshooting Fisher 8-4 through the first 45 minutes of action. The Cardinals however had the advantage in corner kick chances, 4-3.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening half, as the scoreboard remained empty at 0-0 going into the break.
Fisher goalie Christian Burkhart made four saves compared to one from Brockport's
Dylan Lopez in the half. Burkhart would finish with seven, while Lopez had three for his final tally.
The second half saw a switch in control of pace, as it was the opposing Cardinals putting on the pressure. They outshot Brockport, 7-4, in the second. Going into the final 10 minutes of play, the score remained tied at 0-0.
At 81:09, the St. John Fisher Cardinals would get on the board. A foul in the box rewarded the Cardinals with a penalty kick try late in the game. Ryan Brown would beat Lopez on the play, making it a 1-0 lead for Fisher.
Brockport was unable to find the equalizer in the final minutes, resulting in the 1-0 loss on the road. Fisher moves to 6-4-4 overall and 5-1-2 in the Empire 8 after the win.
