Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team won its third match in a row on Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles defeated Houghton, 3-0, at home to improve to 4-4-1 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 play.
Brockport controlled the ball and pace of play for most of the match on its home turf. The crew outshot the visiting Highlanders, 27-3, for the game. Brockport managed 16 shots on goal, while keeping Houghton from registering any threatening strikes on net.
At 16:10, the Green and Gold lit up the scoreboard for the first time on the night.
Gael Baraldi netted his first of the season, assisted by
Peter Tinaj.
Up 1-0 with halftime approaching,
Russ Domm added to the lead. Domm was assisted by
Alex Rivara at 43:46, giving Brockport a 2-0 advantage at the break.
The home team provided constant pressure in the scoring zone, earning a total of 14 corner kicks in the game (Houghton – 1 corner kick).
Brockport continued to possess the ball well throughout the second half, looking to create more scoring opportunities. At 77:25 the squad would make good on one of those chances.
Max Voyer buried his third goal of the season for Brockport's third of the night.
With Voyer's goal being the final score of the match, the Green and Gold held on for the 3-0 win.
Andrew Taylor played the full 90 minutes in net, helping the team secure the shutout.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for more Empire 8 play. They will host SUNY Poly for a 2pm start.
