Golden Eagles Look to Continue Historical Start

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team is set to travel to Rochester on Wednesday, October 9th to face the Nazareth Golden Flyers at 4pm and will be back home on Saturday, October 12th for a matchup against the St. John Fisher Cardinals at 12pm. 
 
Program History: Last week the Golden Eagles made history being undefeated through 10 games with 10 straight shutouts for the first time ever, not allowing a single goal yet. It marks the best start in program history, and makes them one of three teams in all of NCAA college soccer to not have allowed a goal in net. The team sits at 9-0-1 overall and 5-0 in the E8 Conference.
 
Last Week's Recap: Last Wednesday the squad traveled to Houghton where it shutout the Highlanders, 3-0. Early on in the first period, Autumn Edwards wasted no time scoring an unassisted goal at just 5:44. Lyndsey Miller also found the back of the net with an unassisted shot bringing the team to 2-0 going into halftime. Only eight minutes into the second period, Jaylah Cossin took a pass from Katie Hotaling and scored bringing the score up to 3-0 and finalizing the game.
 
Goalkeepers Karissa Champion and Madeline McCrosson both found time in the net for the Golden Eagles. Champion for 15 minutes and McCrosson for 75 with two saves on the game. 
 
On Saturday, October 5th, the team stayed on the road traveling to SUNY Poly to face the Wildcats where Brockport dominated with yet another shutout, 4-0. McKenna Slate found the back of the net with an early unassisted goal into the first half at only 8:59. Megan Gerber also contributed with an unassisted goal raising the score to 2-0 going into half. At just a minute into the second period, Amelia Breton snuck an unassisted shot past the goalkeeper and with only 10 minutes left in the game, Katie Hotaling brought in one more unassisted goal making the final 4-0 for the Green and Gold. 
 
Weekly Award Winner: Emily McCane was in between the pipes for the matchup with one save and on Monday. Helping earn the clean sheet, McCane was named the E8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
 
Looking at Nazareth and St. John Fisher – The Golden Flyers currently sit at 5-3-2 overall in the 2024 season and 2-0-2 in the conference. They finished up last season at 8-5-6 overall and 5-0-3 in conference play. St. John Fisher is currently 7-3-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Cardinals finished 8-4-5 overall in the 2023 season and 4-0-4 in the Empire 8 Conference.

Up Next: Following this week's slate of games, Brockport will continue conference play in the heart of October. On Wednesday, October 16th the squad will host Alfred University for a 7pm match.
