Brockport, NY – The Brockport women's soccer team is set to host Elmira on Saturday, November 2nd at 1pm for the Empire 8 Quarterfinals as the No. 1 seed. The team goes into the first round of the Empire 8 Championships with a record of 14-1-1 overall and 10-1 in conference play after claiming the E8 Regular Season Title.
E8 Regular Season Champs - The Golden Eagles traveled to Geneseo to face the Knights on Wednesday, October 30th where they fought hard to secure that No. 1 seed spot with a 3-1 win.
Sierra Edwards put Brockport up 1-0 just six minutes in the first period with an assist from
Jaylah Cossin. Cossin then sought out a scoring opportunity and took it with an unassisted goal.
Before the end of the first, Geneseo made their mark on the scoreboard bringing the score to 2-1 going into the halftime break.
Amelia Breton found the back of the net with the only goal of the second period with another assist by Cossin taking the final score to 3-1. Taking the win on the road Brockport clinched the No. 1 seed and the E8 Regular Season Title in year one in the conference.
Clean Sheets Everywhere - This season is the second year in a row Head Coach
Mike Idland's group has tied the program record for shutouts in a season. With 13 clean sheets on the season, it is the third time in program history Brockport has hit that mark (1995, 2023).
Madeline McCrosson has credited for six solo and five combined shutouts as the primary starting goalie.
Karissa Champion has six combined shutouts, while
Emily McCane has one solo and four combined.
Team Leaders - The Golden Eagles have gotten strong offensive contributions from several players this season.
Jaylah Cossin leads the Empire 8 in total points (28), goals (10), game-winning goals (4), and is second in assists (8).
Amelia Breton is second on the squad with 16 points from eight goals, while
Sierra Edwards is third with 14 points from six goals and two assists.
Caitlin Nelson is second on the team with five assists this season.
Making Saves - With 29 saves and a 9-1-0 record on the season,
Madeline McCrosson leads Brockport's successful group of goalies this year. McCrosson leads the Empire 8 with an average of just .364 goals against per game and is second with an .870 saves percentage.
Karissa Champion (2-0-1) has 10 saves in three starts and
Emily McCane (2-0-0) has four saves in two starts.
A Look at Utica – As of now the Elmira Soaring Eagles sit at the No. 8 Seed in the conference. They are currently at 5-9-2 overall and 4-7 in the conference. The Green and Gold faced the Soaring Eagles back on October 19th where they fought for a strong 7-1 win.
