Pittsford, NY – On Thursday night, the Brockport volleyball team lost to St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Semifinals, 3-1. Fisher advances to the E8 Championship, while Brockport is eliminated from the postseason after the loss.
To start the match, the Cardinals pulled out a tough point in the opening set. They took the first, 25-22, to go up 1-0. Brockport would soon face a 2-0 deficit after falling the second set, 25-16. In the third set, the Golden Eagles prevented the sweep with a 25-21 win. St. John Fisher put the match away in the fourth with a 25-18 effort to lock up the 3-1 victory.
Alenna Williamson led the Golden Eagles attack on offense with 11 kills.
Maddy Howell finished with six kills,
Anna Cascapera had five,
Gianna Felipe and
Kaylee Dickerson-Holly had three each.
Elsie Logan led the squad with 13 digs as the Green and Gold libero. Felipe finished the match with 11 digs. Cascapera registered eight digs, while both
Kaitlyn Jewett and
Grace Ippoliti each had six.
Jewett (13) and
Lauryn Forand (12) totaled 25 assists from Brockport's setter position on the night. Jewett (2), Cascapera (2),
Lauren Emke (2), Forand (1), Logan (1), and Felipe (1) all had aces on the serve.
Cascapera was the lone Brockport player with a solo block to go with one block assist. Emke, Williamson, and Howell all had one block assist to their name for the match.
Following the loss, the Golden Eagles' 2024 campaign has come to a close. They finish the season 17-10 overall and 7-4 in the E8, making a run to the Empire 8 Semifinals in year one in the conference.
