Women's Soccer Finishes Out Record Breaking Season in Scranton

Brockport, NY – The Brockport women's soccer team finished up the season with a first round loss in the NCAA Tournament, as they faced Wesleyan University in Scranton, PA. The Cardinals took home the 4-1 victory putting an end to the Golden Eagles record-breaking season at 15-2-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

Wesleyan got the ball rolling and opened the scoring book at 28:48 with a goal scored by Kerenza Leahey putting Wesleyan on the board 1-0 going into halftime.

Coming back after the halftime break, Leahey was able to sneak another past the Brockport goalkeeper just 10 minutes in taking the Cardinals up to a 2-0 lead early in the second half.

10 minutes later Brockport got on the board with a solo goal by Autumn Edwards to make the score 2-1 midway through the second half. With the unassisted score, Edwards made history as the first ever goal scorer for the Brockport women's soccer program on the national stage.

Still trailing by one with about 12 minutes left in regulation, the Golden Eagles narrowly missed out on the equalizer. Jaylah Cossin was 1-on-1 with the Wesleyan's goalie, Molly Brumbach. Cossin's shot got deflected by Brumbach's diving effort for the save to keep the Cardinals ahead on the board.

Brockport began to put some pressure on the Cardinals as we hit the final ten minutes of play. However, Wesleyan was able to turn away all threats from the Green and Gold.

Right before the end of the game, Wesleyan scored two more goals within three minutes of each other to put the game away. The first was from Sheridan Snow with an assist from Katie O' Connell and another by O'Connel herself with an assist from Kerenza Leahy.

Goalkeeper Madeline McCrosson was in between the pipes for the Green and Gold and showed out with a total of four saves on the day. Wesleyan outshot Brockport 24-8 in the contest, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on net.

Autumn Edwards, Jaylah Cossin, Lyndsey Miller, Megan Gerber, and Sierra Edwards all got their foot on the ball contributing to the shots total.

The Golden Eagles fought hard for their record-breaking season and finished off strong earning their spot into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and second time in program history. The team claimed 10 all-conference selections and snagged a trio of Empire 8 Awards to end the season off. At 15-2-2 on the year, Brockport also set a new program-record with 14 shutouts on the season.
