Brockport, NY – This weekend the SUNY Brockport volleyball team will host a pair of non-conference opponents to conclude the regular season. Friday night at 5pm the Golden Eagles will play Clarkson University, and then on Saturday morning they host RIT at 10am.
Clinching the 6th Seed: Last weekend the Green and Gold traveled for the final two regular season E8 matchups of the 2024 season. The group defeated Russell Sage, 3-1, and then lost to Hartwick, 3-1. Splitting on the weekend, Brockport moved to 14-9 overall and 7-4 in the conference. This is good for the team to secure the sixth seed heading into the Empire 8 Tournament, with the first round starting on Tuesday, November 12
th.
Defending Home Court: In their last home match, the Golden Eagles fell to Alfred, 3-2. This was their first loss at home since Head Coach
Jim Clar took over for the start of the 2023 season (11-1 at home). Now at 4-1 on the home floor this season, Brockport gets to get back on track with two non-conference matches at home to close the regular season.
Leading the Attack: Alenna Williamson and
Alexis Sison are both having career-best seasons offensively for the Green and Gold. Williamson leads the attacking duo with a career-high 258 kills and ranks ninth in the E8 with 2.97 kills per set. Sison is eighth in the conference with an average of 2.99 kills per set to go with a career-high 212 kills total. Freshman
Lauren Emke is sixth in the Empire 8 with a hitting percentage of .257 to go with her 128 kills.
Setting the Table: Sophomore
Kaitlyn Jewett has been the primary setter for the Golden Eagles this season. She has a total of 525 assists and ranks seventh in the conference with an average of 5.97 assists per set.
Lauryn Forand has contributed in the role as well in her freshman season, registering 285 assists (4.38 per set).
Just Keep Digging: Elsie Logan has been Brockport's rock at libero all season long. She is first in the E8 with a total of 423 digs, earning a 4.81 digs per set average which is second in the E8. Three other players have over 100 on the year in
Gianna Felipe (201),
Alexis Sison (194), and
Kaitlyn Jewett (161).
Battle Above the Net: Maddy Howell (0.79) and
Lauren Emke (0.78) rank second and third respectively in the Empire 8 in blocks per set this season. Emke is first on the team with 66 total blocks,
Alenna Williamson is second with 57, and Howell is third with 37.
Alyssa Bruno is first on the squad with 12 solo blocks.
This Weekend's Slate: Friday night's matchup will be the against the Clarkson Golden Knights, who enter the match 12-12 overall on the season. They are on a five-match win streak heading into the weekend, picking up 3-0 sweeps against St. Lawrence, RIT, and Bard in that span. On Saturday the RIT Tigers come to town looking to improve upon their 18-11 record (as of Nov. 7). RIT will take on St. John Fisher Friday to go for a third straight win.
Empire 8 Quarterfinals: With the regular season coming to an end, Brockport will turn its attention to the postseason as the No. 6 seed for the E8 Tournament. Brockport is set to travel to No. 3 Hartwick on Tuesday, November 12
th for a 7pm start to postseason play.
