Golden Eagles Bounce Back with Dominant Showing to Finish Florida Trip

Dayonta, FL – On Tuesday the Brockport women's basketball team dominated William Smith in the consolation game of the Mauro Panaggio Tournament, hosted by DME Academy. The Golden Eagles earned a convincing, 99-53, victory to improve to 7-2 on the season.
 
Freshman Peyton Maneri had the best outing of her collegiate career in the win. She set career-highs across the board with 17 points, nine assists, and seven steals.
 
The Green and Gold got going right away following the opening tip, quickly taking an 8-2 lead. Scoring 27 points in the period, Brockport created a 13-point lead going into the second.
 
A 6-0 spurt to start the second quarter put Brockport up by 19 points. The lead would grow as high as 21 points in the first half thanks to the squad outscoring William Smith, 30-6, in the paint. Brockport held a 45-27 advantage at the break.
 
The Golden Eagles shot 47.4% from the floor in the first half and went 7-for-8 at the foul line (87.5%). They would shoot an even better percentage in the second half, making the game a blowout. Brockport scored 54 points in the second half, shooting 52.5% in the last two quarters.
 
Brockport was locked in defensively to start the second half, holding William Smith to just four points through the first 6:17 of the third quarter. Outscoring the Herons, 26-10, in the period, the Green and Gold entered the fourth up 71-37 (34-point lead).
 
The fourth quarter featured 28 points from the Golden Eagles, their highest scoring quarter of the day. Putting the finishing touches on the contest, Brockport cruised to a 46-point victory to conclude the outing at the Mauro Panaggio Tournament at DME Academy.
 
Maneri's 17 points were matched by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste in the contest, as the pair led Brockport in scoring. Both shot a health 8-for-14 from the floor in the game (57.1%). The two also combined for 12 assists, 10 steals, and four boards.
 
Kaileigh Hunt notched her first double-double of the season, going for 16 points and 10 boards. Hunt was efficient as well going 4-for-8 from the field, 1-for-2 from deep, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line.
 
Cam Tooley rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Green and Gold. She scored 10 points to go with six boards and five assists. Following the trend of efficiency, she went 3-for-5 from the floor, 1-for-2 from long range, and 3-for-3 at the stripe.
 
Now at 7-2, the Golden Eagles have shined in several team statistical categories going into the holiday break. They currently rank inside the Top 20 in the country in points per game (80.4), steals per game (15.1), assist/turnover ratio (1.3), and in turnover margin (+9.7).
 
Brockport will be back in action on January 7th, 2025 when the squad travels to face Utica University to begin Empire 8 play. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm out in Utica, NY.
