Brockport, NY – This weekend the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is back at The Vlog for a pair of home conference games. The Golden Eagles will host Cortland for a 7:30pm tip-off on Friday and will then take on No. 6 Oswego at 4pm on Saturday.
Last Time Out: The Green and Gold swept the competition last weekend for pair of key wins in conference play. First the team took down New Paltz on the road, 66-55. It was a balanced scoring effort as
Caquan Wester (10pts),
Tony Arnold (10pts),
Zachary Rice (11pts), and
Alex Tavarez (10pts) all hit double figures. The next day the squad defeated Oneonta, 94-81, to finish off the weekend road trip. Rice led the way with a career-high 25 points on an efficient night shooting the ball (9-14 FG, 4-6 3PT). Brockport improved to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in the SUNYAC following the weekend.
Conference Standings: With the regular season winding down, the SUNYAC Tournament is coming up fast. The Golden Eagles are one win away from locking up a spot in the postseason, as they currently sit at third in the conference standings at 11-4 in SUNYAC play. Against Cortland: Going into Friday night's matchup the Cortland Red Dragons are 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the conference. Currently riding a 3-game win streak, they are fourth in the SUNYAC standings. The previous meeting between Brockport and Cortland needed overtime to decide a winner. The Golden Eagles pulled out the win on the road, 80-72, in overtime. Brockport has won three games in a row against the Red Dragons entering this week's game.
Taking on the Lakers: The Oswego State Lakers are currently the No. 6 ranked team in the nation with a record of 20-1 overall and 14-0 in SUNYAC play. They have won 13 games in a row heading into the weekend, with the last loss coming against Case Western Reserve back on December 28
th. Still undefeated in conference play, the reigning SUNYAC champs are the only team to clinch a postseason berth so far. Earlier this season when Brockport faced Oswego on the road, the Lakers took the win at home, 78-68.
Regular Season Finale: The Golden Eagles will have just one more regular season game left on the schedule following this weekend's slate. They will host Geneseo on Saturday, February 17
th at 4pm for Senior Day.
