Brockport, NY – Friday night the Golden Eagle men's basketball team fell to the Cortland Red Dragons at home, 64-57. Brockport is now 15-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
Alex Tavarez led the team with 12 points on the night, going 6-for-10 from the floor.
Tony Arnold finished with 10 points, which all came in the second half after he got into foul trouble in the first.
The first half was low scoring, with both teams shooting below 40% from the field to start the game. These two SUNYAC rivals traded blows throughout the first half, playing to a 27-27 tie with 38 seconds until the break. A pair of free throws in the final seconds put Cortland up by two points going into halftime.
Every time a team created a small lead, the opposition was able to answer to keep the game close. The Red Dragons took a 38-32 lead early in the second half, but Brockport quickly turned it around to go up 41-40. A pair of fastbreak layups from
Zachary Rice gave the Green and Gold a 3-point lead, but soon Cortland would take control for good.
Kareem Lubin got hot for the Red Dragons late in the second half. He finished with a game-high 22 points. Cortland would end up with a 57-51 lead with just 1:23 left in regulation. Free throws down the stretch put the game away, as the Red Dragons pulled out the 7-point victory.
The Golden Eagles are back at home on Saturday for another conference clash. They take on No. 6 Oswego State for a 4pm tip-off at The Vlog.
