Baseball Drops Game 1 in Florida to Mitchell College

Auburndale, FL – The Brockport Baseball team fell, 9-7, to Mitchell College on day one in Florida. Brockport is now 3-3 overall on the season heading into tomorrow's pair of games vs St. Lawrence University. 
 
Brian Tietjen doubled to left center to get the ball rolling, bringing Josh Indek home for the first run of the game. 
 
Indek kept things going in the second inning, sending home Alan Michael LeFrois for the second run of the evening. Mitchell answered back with its first run of the game in the third, making the score 2-1.
 
Logan Wing hit a sacrifice fly out to right field, bringing home TJ Strevell for Brockport's third run of the game to take a 3-1 lead. Then in the bottom of the fourth, Tietjen flied out to right field in a sacrifice to bring home Indek. The Golden Eagles held a 4-1 lead on the scoreboard going into the fifth inning.
 
Mitchell scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, making the game a 4-3 score. The Green and Gold came back with a big answer by way of a big seventh inning.

Logan Wing grounded out to the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt, bringing home Zach Eldred for the first run of the inning. Jason Mansell was up to bat next and hit a double to left field, which brought home both Tietjen and Strevell for Brockport. With three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the squad went up 7-3 going into the eighth.
 
In the top of the eighth, Mitchell College's Cole Lalli hit a grand slam to tie the score up at 7-7. Lalli helped Mitchell score two more runs with a double in the top of the ninth, creating the final score of 9-7.
 
Matt McGowan started the day on the mound of the Golden Eagles pitching 4.1 innings. McGowan struck out two batters, let up eight hits, three runs and no walks across 18 at bats.
 
Anthony Lapine came into the game to pitch 3.1 innings, striking out one batter while letting up four hits and four runs across 13 at bats.
 
Ryan Peters pitched 1.1 innings and struck out one batter, let up three hits and two runs across six at bats to close the game.
 
Brockport will head back to the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex for a 7-inning double header against St. Lawrence University starting at 1:30pm.
