Houghton, NY – In a doubleheader on the road at Houghton, the SUNY Brockport softball team got the split to move to 3-9 overall. The Golden Eagles won game one, 4-2, before falling in the second game, 9-4.
Game 1: Brockport 4, Houghton 2
Olivia Simone had a great showing at the plate to start the doubleheader, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, and one RBI. She put Brockport on the board first with an RBI double in the top of the first inning. Simone would then come around to score to give the team an early 2-0 lead.
Houghton was able to answer in the bottom half of inning, scoring a pair of runs to tie the score up at 2-2. The tie was broken by the Green and Gold in the top of the third.
Paige Wentland put the ball in play, knocking Simone home for the RBI to put the team up 3-2.
Then in the fifth inning,
Aubrey Ennis was apart of the action offensively for the second time. Connecting at the plate for an RBI, she helped Simone come around to score her third run of the contest. This would be the final run of the contest, giving Brockport a little cushion for the 4-2 win.
Riley Barrett went 1-for-4 with a run scored and
Reagan Myers provided a hit with a 1-for-3 showing. Simone, Ennis, and Wentland all registered one RBI for the team.
Fiona Gibiser started at pitcher in this game, giving up two earned runs with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings of action.
Kendall Phillips (W, 2-3) received the winning decision for her second victory of the season. Phillips went 4.0 innings with five strikeouts, giving up just one hit and no runs.
Game 2: Brockport 4, Houghton 9
The second game of the set saw the Highlanders take an early lead on their home field. After a scoreless first inning, Houghton would create a 3-0 advantage heading into the top of the fourth.
With runners on base,
Danielle Wenzek knocked a double to center field for an RBI to score pinch runner
Ciara Olivo.
Jackie DuTot then helped bring in a pair of runs, putting the ball in play which caused a throwing error.
Grace Talbut and Wenzek both scored on the play, tying the game up at 3-3.
Houghton had a big response in the bottom half of the fourth. The home team scored four runs in the inning to go up 7-3 going into the fifth. The Highlanders then hit a home run and an RBI single in the sixth to add some cushion, making it a 9-3 lead.
Riley Barrett would come around to score on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to give Brockport one more run to its total. However, there would be no late rally to result in the final score of 9-4.
Barrett was effective as the leadoff hitter in the lineup, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
Erin Dougherty was credited with three sacrifice hits to help move runners over.

Cece Rappleyea (1-2) all connected for hits. Talbut and Rappleyea both also had stolen bases in the game.
Starting at pitcher in the second game of the doubleheader was
Hadley Alguire. She went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts, giving up one earned run.
Kendall Phillips was called upon again for 1.0 innings of work, allowing three runs to score.
Fiona Gibiser (L, 0-4) got the losing decision, pitching 3.0 innings with three earned runs during her shift.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday as they head to Nazareth to face the Golden Flyers. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3pm out in Rochester on March 29
th.
