Men's Lacrosse Comes From Behind to Top New Paltz in OT

New Paltz, NY- The Brockport men's lacrosse team erased a 4-goal deficit to defeat New Paltz in overtime, 13-12, on Saturday, March 30th. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in SUNYAC play following the win.
 
Nick Askin made his presence felt throughout, scoring 6 goals including the game-tying goal with 1:51 left in the fourth to send the game into overtime. Askin's 6 goal outing marked his 7th game with 3 or more goals on the season.
 
With his 38th goal of the season in the fourth quarter, Nick Askin officially tied the Brockport program record for single-season goals.
 
The Askin connection put Brockport up 1-0 early, with Nate Askin finding Nick for the game's opening contest.
 
Following Daniel Wright's first goal of the season to put Brockport ahead 2-1, the Hawks would take control of the 1st quarter, scoring the next 4 goals to enter the 2nd quarter up 5-2.
 
The Golden Eagles would bounce back in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Hawks 3-2 in the period to enter the halftime break down 7-5.
 
After a New Paltz goal to begin the half, Ryan Haugh would bury his first goal of the season to bring Brockport within two goals yet again (8-6).
 
Down 11-7 within just seconds remaining in the third, Dillon McCann would score his first goal of the season, beating the buzzer thanks to an assist from Ryan Haugh to give Brockport some much-needed momentum.
 
Trailing by 3 goals with 4:29 remaining, the Golden Eagles would force overtime with goals from Garrett Smith, Carson Colucci, and Nick Askin.
 
Nate Askin would be the hero in overtime for Brockport, burying the golden goal to secure Brockport's first SUNYAC win of the year.
 
Jack Acker earned the win, putting together a strong performance between the pipes for Brockport with 17 saves in 61:15.
 
Ryan Steinhart was strong in defeat for New Paltz, making 26 saves in a losing effort.
 
Andrew DiPalma (14) and Tim Hubbard (5) led the Golden Eagles in ground balls, with Hubbard adding an assist.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will host Cortland on Saturday, April 6th at 2 p.m.
